When to introduce a leash?

I have a 7 wk old chihuhua puppy and want to train her properly. We bought her a small, light cat collar cut off the extra bit to fit her properly. She wears it just fine and I wanted her to become used to a leash and walking with it as well. I put one on her about twice a day for maybe 10 minutes just to introduce it as a good thing. I walk with her a few steps and give her a tiny bit of treat, and repeat. Am I doing this too early? She's walked with me a couple times around my main floor, and I make sure not to give her too many treats, should I wait a little longer or continue? Thanks in advance

I'm super happy you are starting leash training early!

Teaching your dog how to walk on the leash is best done early, as early as possible, just like other commands. Start inside, going small, maybe around your house and treat as you done, but keep the sessions short, maybe 15 minutes. Do this a few times a day and continue to go on longer and with less treats until you feel comfortable bringing her outside.

You seem to be doing great, you should start to work on sit, then down, then stay as well!

Your fine you are doing a great job just continue the treats and slow walking in your front yard and do that for a while then move down the block when she is ready.
