When was the child tax credit introduced in uk?

I was born in the united kingdom in 1962. I migrated to Jamaica with my parents and then came to canada in 1982. I need to know when was the the child tax introduced in the UK and if so am I entitled to get my benefits seen that I did not receive any over the years. I do not know where to contact for this information. Please advise me if possible of the steps I should take. I do have a british birth certificate. Am I a citizen of the UK?

In April 2003!!! If you mean Child benefit/Family allowance, that was brought in around 1945.

HOWEVER, benefits DO NOT get back dated past 6 months of when your actual claim is made. If you don't claim them when you should, you will not get a penny back.

I could say the same, my mother claimed NOTHING for me and my siblings and I was born in 82.

I CANNOT re claim child benefit from 1982.

ALL benefits are the same, you cannot claim 20 years later and ask for back pay.
