I don't have the answer but I have some interesting fact about the DI cover--'cover' is "hat" in naval terms--the cover for uniform use actually originated from the Marine Corps in the early 1900's. Today, many drill instructors/sergeants use it for their drill uniform, in training newly candidates. The Army and many other paramilitary agencies in the U.S. wear the "smokey bear" cover. Traditionally, it's called the "campaign cover", from what I was told.
