Where does everyone put their cash register?

I searched this and couldn't find anything- I have a small reception area in front of my treatment room.
Do I have to purchase one of those expensive reception desks? Where do you all keep yours?

i have no cash register, but as far as money goes, i've kept mine in a bank bag

but now i keep it in the desk drawer (desk that was purchased at a yard sale, btw) which is in my business office.

I worked in a spa that their reception desk was just a huge piece of wood and the cash register went on top of it. This was hawaii, so it was pretty casual and beachy...but like others have said...I don't see why you can't just put the register on top of whatever desk you happen to want to use

Ah, I see what you were saying. Well, what we did was take the money out each night. I'm not sure what she did with the money...but we'd put the empty cash drawer out in plain sight, so anyone thinking about breaking in would know at least there was no money in the cash register.

Another spa I worked at simply used a small, metal, lock-box. It was kept open most of the time and locked at night, and kept below in a cabinet. I've always found cash registers to be overkill. Unless you're doing high volume, along with a wide array of retail items, you're right, you probably don't need one at all.

Personally, I see about 5 people a day. Since it'n not a high volume each day, I have a pegboard system for receipts and place the checks/cash between the folding peg board.

Most clients pay with credit card, so I just put those receipts in with the checks and cash, take home the checks and cash at end of day and batch out the cc receipts when I come in on the next morning.

I have a built in desk for my front office.

Lol, I don't think I'll high-volume, by any means. I'm just starting. I'll be happy if I make rent money.

I went and bought a low profile, locked cash box at Office Max, that should do fine. I guess I'll put it in a desk drawer. You guys saved me money.

Pueppi, I've never seen the peg board system before! I don't really understand how that works. Do you keep it out of sight?
Don't clients see it if you have to make change?

I keep a small amount of change (1's, 5's and 10's) for people who pay cash and may need to break a 20 in an envelope that I lock in my file drawer with my client files. Everything else goes to the bank. Or the grocery store. or, increasingly, the gas station!
