which essential oil

I am planning to give my clients little rollette bottles that I plan to fill with essential oils. I am not qualified in using oils and I would like to ask which oils would be safe to transport into the rollette balls that the clients could use on either their forehead or wrist.

Lola as you won't be insured to do this then I think it's best that you don't. You can't just give oils to all sorts of people as all sorts of people have all sorts of contraindications so it really wouldn't be worth the risks. Hope that helps.

would it be safe giving clients bath salts mixed with essential oils. what I am trying to do is to give my clients a little extra to take away with them. I am just starting my practice and trying to think of little extra touches

Agree with the other replies above. It doesn't matter what you blend the oils with. It is the oils which are the active ingredients and could be contraindicated, for instance say in pregnancy. Unless you are an aromatherapist, you wouldn't know which oils would be safe and to be honest, it is a bit of a minefield for those of us who are, which is why you haven't been given the answer you want. There are all sorts of guidelines you have to follow regarding labelling, etc.

I wouldn't recommend it.

As a Reflexologist,I agree, if yo are not a qualified Aromatherapist or Herbalist then you should no way be using esential oils.Health & Safety could close you down or fine you. Your Insurance company could cancell your policy also... thats at worst!
However if you are using ready made blend say from Tisserand ,you could let your client have their own left overs quite legally,as it saves on disposing of oil... pollution BLAH BLAH BLAH!! Good luck ..im doing the same kinda thing and client always appreciate a freebee....

Example:

Lavender which is a sedative is a stimulant in larger quantities.

Lavender is considered contra-indicated in pregnancy (though I have my own thoughts on this).

Lavender is not everybody's favourite oil and some hate it.

Aromababe makes a good point. You need to follow strict guidelines and be insured separately to sell products on (or give them away) and you need to list all the ingredients (including those in the carrier) and list all the possible warnings.

I also had an interest in aromatherapy and felt 'un-done' just being qualified in massage so I did the course. Why not do the same?

I am thinking of small bags of bath salts made using food colouring, essential oil and sea salt. I would use cotton muslin bagsand a little coloured ribbon. would this idea be OK.

As we have all said, using an essential oil in a product when you are not trained to do so could get you into trouble. As Candie said, if you are drawn to using these oils, why not do a course. Even an introductory course would allow you to use these oils on friends and family.

Just a thought why not embark on a course for making products, you then could get the proper insurance through them? Aromantic do such courses and the insurance is not that expensive after you have done some training. You learn to make loads of different products including bath bombs, shampoo, conditioners, massage bars, eye gels and even make up the list just goes on and on. They hold courses both in London and Scotland (not sure where there) the web site has all the dates, fees ect, and is www.aromantic.com. Its worth a visit just to look at some of the recipes.

They also hold a course for the business side of things, as it can be very complicated with all the laws on labelling etc..

As for the muslin bags, try lakeland plastics as they sell small squares of muslin which you could tie to make little parcels.

Just a thought on food colourings, some contain synthetic chemicals and preservatives, so may alter the structure of the essential oil and so may cause different reactions. I'm not a big fan on food colourings, but maybe if there was a natural alternative that would be more in harmony with nature.

I have decided against using colouring. I will stick to using the dead sea bath salts and aromatherapy oil

as everyone has advised you against giving people body products containing essential oils I was wondering if you could try something different and for example make some pretty book marks or little inspiration cards with say an affirmation on each and add one drop of oil to the card/bookmark for your clients. I am not sure if this is ok but i would be interested to know as I might do it myself now that I have thought of it! Aromatherapists please advise
