hello...have a question..i work at a salon..my books are always messed up..overbooked, doublebooked, clients say they have been trying to get ahold of me but cant..so, i finally removed the book at the salon, and told the stylists to have the client call me at my cell phone so there won'b be any more mixups..do you think my clients will find this an extra effort ?  I have had some clients say they like the idea because now they can KNOW they are getting booked..i only rent a room anyway, it's my own business..

I went through something similar and I just took control of my life back. At first my clients found it to be an extra step. They'd call the office and then get another number to call. After the first time it was never a problem. Be sure to keep business cards with YOUR cell number on them in your room so that you clients can have that to hold on to and that should really cut down on the extra step thing.Doing your OWN book gives you the ability to control your day. No surprises.

This could be a great time to increase your pre-booked appointments. It will be easier for them... they won't need to call except to make a change...and it will be easier for you to manage your schedule.Plus its sooo nice to look ahead and see that the rent and phone bill Etc. are already covered. It really cuts down on the occasional anxiety attacks!Kirsten

I had the same exact problem at the salon I was at (one of the reasons I left). Nothing like having someone walk in who was NEVER written down!!!!! I was very fortunate the few times that happened that I wasn't double-booked! No matter whether it's a mix-up on your part or technically the fault of someone else, it is still a reflection of you. So..... I did the same thing and took my schedule book back. That way, there were no mixups and I didn't look like a flake. (I also read a lot of responses on this board that said one of the ways they became successful was to take care of their own books. - Just confirmation to what I had already decided to do!)I gave my cell number to regs, new pts when they made their appts, had it printed on my business cards, & had the salon give it out. I found the same thing to be true..... no one thought it was an extra effort because they knew their appointments were going to be correct.

Hi everyone, thanks for your helpful input..i have decided to go ahead and take control over my own books and i love it..like you said, No surprises!  I book when i want and with actual time between clients..i love it..thanks everyone!

good for you!  as everyone has stated, clients won't mind at all.  sometimes i never even actually talk to my clients, we only communicate via voicemail.  as others have stated too, make sure you have your own business card that shows your cell #.  leave a nice voicemail greeting that states for them to leave a day and time they are wishing to book, that'll help.  good luck, you'll be VERY happy you made the decision!

terab, thanks for the encouragement..yes, i do have a business card with my cell number and make sure each client gets one..  I have so many clients telling me they are glad i'm doing this now because they called sev. times to get in and I didnt even know about it..it is a big sigh of relief..

Another thought to help make this even easier... you can get post cards made or type a letter with your cell number on it, and a note stating anyone who is interested in an appointment should utilize your cell to book, that you are still in the salon, but this will assure proper scheduling from here out.  Send it to all of your client list.  You may even want to put a $5.00 off next visit so they make the call.I know vista print has some nice post cards http://www.vistaprint.com/vp/ns/splash/splash_postcards.aspx?xnav=left that you can design yourself. آ Hope that helps.
