Who should take over my practice when I'm on maternity leave

Ok, So I can't find any info on this subject. I am due with baby #2 in January and am still feeling energetic and great! I have my own practice, I rent a space from the YMCA. I love it there. I have a steady stream of clients (although it has been a bit slower I think due to the economy =(. ) Anyway, does anyone know the protocol for having someone take over my business for a few months? I have someone in mind. Do I continue to pay the rent and then she pays me a % of income from my clients? Or, does she pay the rent. I am really clueless as to what to do. I could hire her but then we have to deal with all the paperwork and taxes and stuff. I do need to have someone take over and be there b/c the Y likes to have a MT available. Any ideas would be great!

I think you need to talk to they Y first. If you pay rent, will they allow you to sub-lease the room?

If so, then you have to decide if you just want someone to pay your rent and take care of clients or if you want to make money off that person too?

PErsonally I would just have someone pay the rent and perhaps you need to make some stipulations on how to handle your return. Ex. do you want her to market herself to your clients.

Yes, the Y allows me to sub-let the room. In fact, the other MT already uses my room on an as-needed basis. I guess it doesn't really matter if I make money (although that would be nice too! =) ). I was just wondering if there is a standard for doing this. I know there are MT who don't have their own clients but their whole business is taking over for MT's on vacation or maternity leave.

Last summer I took over a someones practice after she broke her ankle, I spent two days a week at her office working on her clients and the rest of the week in mine. She booked my days at her place, clients continued to call her and she handled the scheduling - (cleared it with her beforehand that I take 1/2 hour breaks between and what time I was to start and finish). She continued to pay the rent (I was there for about 2-3 months) and all clients paid me after their massage, she paid me in full for GC or package clients I had seen that day. I used all of her sheets, but I did the washing. She offered to provide all massage cream, but I brought my own. It worked great for us, both of us were happy at the end - her clients were well taken care of and I got a change of pace for a couple months

When I was out on maternity leave I just gave my clients the name of another local therapist with whom I had made arrangements ahead of time. But I didn't have rent to worry about - I pay a perceneforum.xxxe only.
