Why do some people leave Facebook chat without telling me?

This has happened to me several times. I'd be chatting with someone on Facebook, I'm waiting for a response, then I notice it says on the bottom corner "___ is offline" and I never hear back from them. Why do people do that? Has this ever happened to you?

It happens to me all the time and yes there is a reason for it, people are people and they have to get on with things. Problems come up and they have to attend to them instantly, like for example their baby is crying, or their mother is calling them for dinner, or their husband/wife is needing to some attention - the list goes on.

It's just one of those things that you will learn to overcome in life.

because they got bored of talking to you or they forgot they were after a long pause and closed their browser.

They either fell asleep and put some paint on the wall to look at something more exciting.

Guilty. But I only do it after the conversation has really died down and we haven't said anything for about 20 minutes, and it feels almost acceptable to leave without saying anything. Yeah, it would definitely be more polite to just officially say "Bye", but with me and my friends, we really only do that if we've been keeping up a conversation without too many pauses and one of us suddenly has to leave.

I think it's become the norm for a lot of people, as I'm pretty sure my friends do it to most of their other friends, too. I know what you mean, though.
