Why is it that if you introduce an alien culture to westernised countries?

Because the people of whom you speak do not take the time to understand why the "alien" culture works for its people. The simplest analogy is: "I like chocolate, my friends like chocolate, so everyone must like chocolate. The people who currently like vanilla only do so because they don't have chocolate."

When you think about it a bit it's ironic that this attitude is so ingrained in a culture (North American, in this case) that demands so much choice in things like vehicles and television brands.

I've seen plenty of Muslims here in the US without a hijab, who vote, have non-Muslim friends, etc.

They seem pretty westernized to me.
