Winter stole my jojoba :(

So, I'm finding now with the drier winter weather that my clients' skin is completely drinking up my jojoba oil. One effleurage pass to spread oil, and no more than 10 seconds later, I'm skidding and getting friction-halted. The squee-squee sound of my oil pump is starting to bug me as a result of how much more oil I'm using. :roll: I wonder if it bugs my clients :?

Anyone know of a slightly-slower-to-absorb oil/creme that will magically stay out of sheets like jojoba oil does?

It's a factor I've gotten used to. Indoor winter humidity here in northern Ontario regularly is sub 20% which makes it drier than most deserts. Everyone has a hard time keeping skin hydrated.
I don't know of any replacement that washes out as well.
I'm thinking of trying Fractionated Coconut Oil. Anyone with experience using this oil?

I switched from a pump to a squirt-top cap for just this reason. I can pour the oil into my hand soundlessly, and I pour a large enough amount that it keeps the glide a long time. Also, I find that this way, the oil is always warm. (The oil inside the pump tube is very difficult to heat). Just another idea for you, if you want to keep using jojoba.

I also have a friend who works at the Ritz in Naples. They actually have their massage therapists pour the warm oil directly from the bottle onto the client's back. It has to be VERY warm, for this to feel good, but my friend says the clients love it.

You also mentioned cream. Just as an FYI: clients absorb more of all lubricants in the winter, including cream.

I agree... I use cream, and I need minimally double the amount on clients, I go from using almost nothing (mainly practice MFR, TP, and DT) to going through a tube every few days.

My thing is, people tend not to moisturize prior to the session because they figure we are going to lube them up anyway, so why bother!!!

I had a client that used to yell at me that she wanted a lot of cream on her back, just because she couldn't put it on herself. I ended up sending her a link to a back brush looking item that you actually can put in lotion and put it on your back yourself...

So I would specifically do my MFR with the same amount of cream each time... in the amount I needed!

have you thought about adding vegetable glycerine to your jojoba? it's a natural humectant, so it might moisturize even further...

mix! I mix jojoba or oil with cream often and I love the result to moisturize and add a little friction to my massage, whether I'm using hot stones or just my hands. I kind of intuitively determine how much of each to use with each application so I couldnt make any accurate recommendations, but to mix I usually just pump jojoba or oil into my hand from the bottle in my roaster and scoop a portion of cream from the dish I use with a tounge depressor and rub together, or ocassionally pre-mix in a dish but I tend to prefer to mix with each application so I have more control. Works for me!

It's only a humectant if there's water in the air to pull in. In really dry weather, I'd worry about it drying out my clients' skin even more :-\

I tried Bon Vital, but didn't like that it smelled like cinnamon (one of the ingredients). Do you notice that scent?

Blisss, which Bon Vital creme were you using? Their basic multi purpose creme comes either scented or unscented. I have never used the scented version, but the unscented is pretty much free of any odor let alone cinnamon.

Bon Vital Massage Creme Naturale. I tried it because it's all-natural (no artificial ingredients). It's not listed as scented, but one of the ingredients is "Cinnamomum Cassia Leaf Oil". That's cinnamon, and you can smell it.

I already use another Multi-Purpose cream that has the standard "bad" ingredients (Octyl Palmitate, parabens, etc.) I'm assuming Bon Vital's multi-purpose is a similar formula?

I'm still on the lookout for the perfect natural alternative. I haven't found it yet.
