I never could see the appeal either.....and yeah, it's soap opera for guys. I did follow it for a while when Cyndi Lauper got involved, and her manager (can't remember his name).
It was the sort of thing I followed casually out of curiosity . One interesting tidbit was what happened to Randy Macho Man Savage's wife Elizabeth. She left Randy for another wrestler Lex Luger and died of a drug overdose.
A real eye opener for me was the harshness of "the biz". I saw a documentary on the wrestling circuit in Northwestern Canada and some big names from the old WWF were on the cards. It was disgusting what these guys were putting up with. I remember Jake The Snake Roberts was there and Coco Beware (the guy with the birds). They were in a curtained off area of a dive gymnasium and their toilet? A green garbage can in the middle of the area.
If you watched the movie "The Wrestler" that just about sums it up. Nowadays some have gone on to mainstream movie careers (Steve Austin, The Rock) and Jesse Ventura into Politics.
I never did really get "into" it, it was more like a weekly movie. The funny thing is, the real die hard fans don't believe it when you tell them it isn't real, that it is all staged. I think the same people believe Chris Fake Angel is a "real" magician too......
