Xbox 360 newbie needs info on preowned games ?

I just bought an xbox 360 (250GB). Now when i went to buy games, I saw that pre-owned ones were quite cheap. I have a few questions around this which the guys at GAME didnt give me a good answer for:

1) Can i play these games on Xbox Live?

2) If the answer to above is 'It depends' - Is there a way I can know before hand if it will work on xbox live?

3) Lets say the game is already registered to someone else on xbox live and I try to use it too. Will it lock or bar from Xbox console or my xbox live account?

4) Can i play that game offline even after it has been deemed unusable on Xbox Live and a failed attempt to register it online?

You can play any used game you want,online or offline. Some games, specifically games from EA, do come with online codes. EA is the only publisher on Live to have their own servers and their games come with online access codes to discourage buying used games. You have to sign into the game with an EA account. You can buy an online code from them though through the game when you try to connect.

Please do keep in mind that when you buy used, the people who created that game do not get any of the money. Selling used games is how game shops stay in business though the developers who spent years making the game don't get that profit and the previous owner of the game doesn't get much money or store credit for trading it in.

pre-owned games are exactly the same as normal priced games its just that someone else has bought it before you and traded it back in. it should say on the game case whether or no you can play on xbox live. if there are and exclusive unlock codes inside then you will probably not be able to use them because the previous owner could have used it already.
