Xbox live voice chat, voices too quiet.?

I'm using a Tritton AX 720 headset and I was talking over party chat and the voices were fine, then I joined a game on Black Ops and I could barely hear my friend. Now we are out of the game and their voices are still very quiet. I have my voice volume for my headset at maximum and voice volume in xbl preferences at max. Also when I have the voice output in preferences set to play through headset I hear nothing, but when I have it set to the other 2 it plays through my headset. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
