Most spas have CCTV cameras covering the front parking lot and back doors and can see clearly what's going on.. Bylaw don't have enough man power to sit whole day at the front and back watching who's going in and out. It can happen only if you have pissed off Bylaw officers some how somewhere. Most of the Bylaw officers are nice and friendly people just doing their jobs. If you're nice and polite with them, show them respect, they won't come after you. If you're rude to them, show no respect, they will come after you no matter where you move.

Unfortunately I don’t feel this is sustainable. Perhaps buy some time to sort things out or just buffer the inevitable. Help us with our withdrawals from these places and establish alternative sources. The thought looming is how widespread will these crusades become.

First it's not the fees.Very hard to get body rub lincence in RH. Second almost all semi girls don't want to get lincence and be under radar

It's not that simple, it's not a money issue at all...the issues have been mentioned many times...@surgeon1936 captured two of the biggest challenges in his post above.

According to the info from reliable sources, this is just a temporary measures taken by the licensing authorities and By law due to some complaints. They have no intention to shut down all the spas.

Can you imagine shutting down all the spas here? Would just push them to operate in residential settings.. which no one wants to do.

Can you imagine seeing so many vacant properties in EBC with For Sale , For Lease signs flying all over the place in R Hill. The loss of revenues from property taxes and business taxes and so on. That reminds me of the scene in Montreal Down town when Quebec was on the brink of separation from Canada.

Owners of the buildings still have to pay property taxes but adding to the vacancies in this economic climate wouldn’t be good. I recall all the industrial units and buildings built in the late 80s just as interest rates spiked. Whole streets had tumbleweeds rolling down them.

One of the changes I think we should make is having a more screened forum. Instead of letting just random new accounts see everything, definitely require some level of participation or vetting. Keeps the heat down a bit. There are some TG groups that do this - no owners, no shills. Just more active discussion.

The first thing I do with a potential tenant is check zoning if the intended use complies. No chance I’d proceed if the property isn’t zoned for what they want to do.

The city definitely can't shut down all the spas.

They will however hit as many as they can and reduce the number of 'illegally' operating spas.

At the same time make a bit by having them register for body rub licenses.

This will blow over, but will be some time before things are back to normal

One of the changes I think we should make is having a more screened forum. Instead of letting just random new accounts see everything, definitely require some level of participation or vetting. Keeps the heat down a bit. There are some TG groups that do this - no owners, no shills. Just more active discussion.

Im not sure the municipality can directly shut anyone down. They can fine, and then go to the Ontario municipal board to prove that the spa is a menace to society. Then the province can agree and revoke a business licence. Feel free to verify this is true??? Sounds reasonable.

Stopped by one of my regular spots close to EBC for a massage. They are still operating but definitely more quiet and less busy. There are still a lot of unknowns at the spas themselves and how it will all play out. Bylaws have been going around and visiting all the places that's for sure. Girls are more cautious with what they offer as well just to be in the safe side.

Guess it'll be a couple more weeks like this until a clearer picture on the licensing, zoning and all.

Yes, obviously they cannot target any specific spa. As far as not caring what services are being offered, I am sure they know but had been ignoring them for quite some time.

Unfortunately - I am fairly certain this crackdown started with complaints from neighbouring businesses who feel that their customers are staying away because EBC is turning into a Red Light district. Once attention is drawn to the services being offered, there is no longer any excuses not to do something.

Openly saying what is being offered in a so called Wellness Centre is like waving a red flag in front of a bull. You are virtually challenging the RH council to do something.

You are one of the better promoters who watch what they write. I am sad to say not all of them do. If some of these owners are aware - maybe they are - of what is being written about the services their girls provide, I am sure they will be shocked.
