Regarding safety- I live in the US, and was amazed at the ridiculous behavior I got away with in Thailand. For better or for worse, several times I got stumbling drunk and wandered around alone all over Pattaya/BKK/Phuket in the wee hours, trying out the Thai karaokes, etc. In SF, I would've gotten rolled for sure in that state. It's even more amazing considering the wealth difference (i.e. if they robbed me at the right time, they might be able to get a months salary out of my wallet).
Another INCREDIBLY stupid thing I did was, as a newbie in my first 3-week GFE with a bar girl, I got bad drunk and was telling her "you don't love me, only love money" and I GAVE HER MY ATM CARD AND TOLD HER MY PIN and told her to take it all and be happy. Couldn't believe that she didn't, she just walked me home and put me to bed. Even blew me in the morning.
I'm still trying to figure out why Thailand is so safe. To me, this is the main advaneforum.xxxe it has over other underdeveloped countries as an inexpensive holiday location (for non-mongerers), as I think in South America/Mexico/Africa *some* people are much more aggressive/threatening to foreigners. At first I thought it was the ideals of the buddhist culture, but lately I've been thinking it's just the immense fear of the MIB.
Yes, I'm a sloppy drunk. :embrassed
