Furthermore, MMA fighters follow a special type of regimen which may include weight lifting, but it's not the only component. Strength building is essential for any grappler, as you need power AND technique to fight at that range. The heavyweights mentioned also have genetics working for them, as do the cyclists CG mentioned.
Case in point, there are some excellent horseriders out there, but only the short guys are considered to become jockeys. The mesomorphic MMA fighters and the long legged, lean cyclists are pros for that same reason: advantage in their field.
