Just been down Bangla for a look.Even the die hard bars (Kangaroo,U2,and P One) are locked down.Only two open and serving soft drinks were Shipwreck and Moon Bar.Unusually there were no staff lingering around preparing bars for a later opening.The place looks sad....:diablo:

All front bars on Sukhumvit and Two Black Sheep also locked down.

Spoke to some Thai Bar owners en route and they are saying "This never happened with Taxsin - it is the new Prime Minister":tussor:

Despite giving written notice to every business in Chiang Mai saying
No bars or restaurants may serve liquor for 2 days
Penalty is 10,000B AND 6 months in prison.
95% are closed, some openly serving beer last night.
I got beer at a bottle shop last night and at the Lanna Bowl today.

I hope the cheats all get locked up.

i went down 17:30 and all bars open... should be open unless police closed them down again. Its usually later opening on 2nd day on holidays like this, same last year.

As of 20:45 all the bars at Sunset Plaza are open and serving except the Beach Bar.

I posted a discussion here titled "Buddha day" with photos of what many of the people who work at these establishments were doing the first day of bar closures. (http://www.phuket-info.com/forums/general/43146-buddha-day-2009-a.html)

While it's inconvenient for bar customers and owners, from the Thai point of view it was a fun day, with them being able to get together and have a great time. There was no lack of beer at the gathering - not sure what time it started as I was delayed in getting there due to the rains, but it was still going strong at sunset.

Anyway, it was a fun day from THEIR point of view.....
