I agree with Hugo. If I don't fall in love with the girl who answers, or I don't have a specific girl, I will ask for a line up. Now, sure, I can understand why they don't like it. but, those of us with the balls to walk if the girls aren't pretty make the owner consider looks when she hires a new lady. You guys should be paying us!
However, this is the best way to do it. Ask for a girl you want, and if she isn't there, act sad and resigned to your fate. Move to leave. They will always offer, "We have other pretty girls!"
Then, you say, "See girls?" with the appropriate voice inflection. If you aren't happy, tell mamasan, "I come back to see (your favorite) next time." then go to the amp next door!

1. I'm not judging so don't take anything I say as me condemning you. Our own consciences do that.

2. This ATF that you sat with for the hour and talked. Did you pay her? If so, you still objectified her. You used her to sate a deeper need. It wasn't about her emotional well-being. Sure it may have turned into that a bit into the discussion but it wasn't initiated with the purpose of appreciating her as a person as much as it was appreciating what she as a person could do for your emotional well-being.

Sorry man, if money's changing hands it's business at worst, business with a personal touch at best.
