it's probably worth pointing out this multipart article, Preparation is the Key to Success, http://www.massageandbodywork.com/Articles/JuneJuly2000/outcall.html that may be worth thinking about. You mentioned she has recently moved to the city - she isn't going to have that many friends she can rely on as customers (a lot of people don't seeing their friends for treatments)  so expanding to strangers is likely, even friends of friends of friends is starting to get in the iffy realm.

Thanks for pointing that out mel!However my roomie only will be massaging women. Not that a woman can't get wierd, too, but I feel better knowing it's women.Does anyone here know how many hours the AMTA requires you to have before they insure you? I believe the lady on the phone today told me to show proof of at least 500 hours or more schooling .my roomie's cert is years and years old ,from Texas, but Texas only requires about 300 hours. Does this mean she needs to take 200 more hours before the amta will give her insurance?THanks!STeph

Why not recommend that she do outcall while SHE tries to figure all this out and hopefully, the outcall biz will grow well for her and relieve some of the burden on you.  This really has gotten into a lot more than it should for you.  SHE needs to find out what the local requirements are and go from there.  If she can legally work in your home, then all you need to know is how is she going to protect you from a lawsuit.   Now we're getting into women only clients and the AMTA.  It's really beyond what you should be doing.  These are all pieces of the puzzle that she needs to find out for herself which will help her in the long run build and grow a successful practice.  Good luck.  Joe E.

I agree with Joe_E. She's a therapist, she will know who to contact for this sort of information. If you've already called your homeowners insurance company and they said they cannot cover you for her clients falling, then your job is done, and I would recommend you tell her to get an office elsewhere. The rest is up to her. As far as you should be concerned, you should not allow her to work from your home until SHE can prove to you that the AMTA or ABMP insurance will cover her clients, and proof should be in WRITING. I'd say, why risk it? Just tell her you cannot allow her to work from your home. You're setting up so many rules for her already anyway, why not just tell her no?
