i prefer koh samui/chaweng/lamai over both of them, not as busy as ws/bangla but a much more chilled atmosphere, less go/go's and beer bars but still plenty bg's to choose from.
not in a harsh way but i would compare both ws & bangla to more of a BLACKPOOL resort. im probably going to take some stick for saying that but its ony my opinion.

I cannot understand this: Why is one place better then the other, and can't we accept they are both fun. I enjoy the Island atmosphere of Phuket much more. But in the evening I had more fun in Pattaya, and not only in WS. Pattaya is not so awful as it looks when you first set foot there, and next time I will try to visit Koh Samet and Koh Chang!

All I can say to the people that have not spend time in both areas: Do so! Don't be fooled, that only one place is good for you!

I agree. (although i don't know how much beer is in UK)

Went to Bangla last night for the 1st time in a long time and was surprised that some of the bars were offering a special price and girls thrusting beer menus in your face.
Singha was 100 baht on the menu!

If that is the "Special Price", I'll stick to Chalong with it's 60 baht beers.
The music isn't as loud but the girls are friendlier, and it's a shorter ride home.

My last visit in July I did find it very good value, all drinks in places like Club Boesch at 80 baht while being draped with tgs seemed incredibly cheap.
I couldnt live in Pats but...

The Patong agogo scene was all but killed off in the Morality crackdown that hit Thailand P4P industry about 6 or 7 years ago - Pattaya passed thru that period almost without a glitch, Nana and Cowboy took some hits then recovered but Patong agogos all but shut up shop - Pink Panther, Smokey Joes and the rest just IMHO died - and no Patong gogo has ever returned to the sanook level they had prior to that time. RIP.

Yes and mores the pity...It can be 2am at anytime in the day in places like The tahitian Queen on Beach rd The Red Spot ( Soi 6) or The Far East ( Soi?) if your up for it in Pats.
Drinks are cheaper too, but Pats can get real expensive after midnight and it was common for us to spend 280 baht ( $A10 !) on a beer and a Sang Som coke in the Go Gos...
The fee at the Tahitian was 800 to leave and 2k ST but drinks (in the day ) only 100 baht.
Patong has very few day time fun venues...

One of the funniest things I heard during the morality crackdown years.. When people were pissing and moaning, saying Thailand was losing it etc.. One really old 30 - 40 year expat chipped in with "Look I was living here when they closed the opium dens.. Once you have been through that cold turkey none of this adjust bar closing times means anything" which made me smile.

As Denver says, all ploaces are very different and cater for different types of farangs,

Bangkok caters for the passing through businessman attending seminars and taking his laptop for a bonk whilst he is there.

Phuket has the silly idea that it is somehow a little above P4P and 'tolerates' the bar beers but restricts the go go scene (tea money plays a part in this). A 'true' family destination!

Patts is the adult playground of LOS and attracts the true mongering type.

All in all they are all fantastic in their own way and preference depends on you.

Cheers Dennis, pretty much sums up my thoughts on the subject.

If some blokes holiday consists of starting drinking at early o'clock, in his favourite bar to watch the usual bird take a bath 'erotically' then BF her mate, back to his hotel, get pissed, sleep, have a bag of crisps then do it all again for 14 nights! good on yer! Go for it!

If you want some sanuk with the girls, chill out, relax, take them back to yours in slow time and have places worth visiting with her then I would chose Phuket.

To me Bangkok is Sex with a bit of shopping thrown in.

When all said and done and I know I've said it before. Let's say my holiday consists of 14 nights in either place and I was to have 2 ST's and 1 LT every single night (Not that I would as I would have knob like a cobblers thumb)

but......14 x 3 girls is......hang on.....just get a calculator....42!

Now if I can't find 42 girls in either Patts, Patong or Bangkok who I like the look of over a two week period! Then I might as well pack it all in and go home.

When all said and done, it's the 'first week' in the bar for 99% of the girls.......Cough! So new girls every week innit!

No it was 280 baht for the two in some gogos like Silver Star Soi 7 and 8 after midnite (120 the heiny, 160 the SS cok) but the drinks were more like 80 each before then... Boesche was so quiet it was 80 baht all drinks all nite but it was boring as well.

Patong is not Phuket. I think that Patong comes closer and closer to Pattaya. Hell, if the beach had the same quality, it would be almost same same, except that there is more choice of entertainment in Pattaya, and not talking about the nightlife here. Pattaya is a big city, but the first thing you notice are the amount of ******s. For a long time stay, if you know the town better it has more to offer then the night-scene. For once and all, the prices are not that much cheaper in Pattaya. Most pretty girls work in gogo's and in the bars, most girls are there because they cannot work in gogos.

Phuket has many places, with all a different atmosphere. That is why I like Phuket more, although I think both places have much to offer.

you see I think quite the opposite....Phuket is changing rapidly into a family destination and Pattaya is still out to attract the monger market

have a look at the building going on in Patong....its all about hotels and the family related tourist industry

its always gonna have its nightlife area but it may be pushed further away from the beach than where it is now
