Bar Fine craziness

I understand an owner like Stevem's point of view but I'm with Allybabba22 on this one-it's not cheap charley to not want to be ripped off, especially when you spend so much money at that bar anyway but it's no use others saying go to a cheaper bar when the other main point of the original post was that it was this particular bar when he found the girl he had the hots for.

In general and not meant fro anyone in particular. when U come to LOS u get lots more for nothing or for a cheaper price ecause you are a good customer & I happen to think that in most cases youl will be taken care of very well as a good customer

compare this to your homeland, when you go into a bar, do you get lots of free drinks everynight? does the bar owner & staff take time to talk to you and maybe genuinely become your friend. Do you expect discounts in your homeland?

I would think in the majority of cases the answer is no fcuking way. Im back in Scotland for a holday right now, having a great time!! but klet me tell you its a grind trying to get a drink at a bar here, its £3 a drink min, & free drinks 5555555555 come on....................

Its became expected in LOS that you get treated very well & thats the way it should be.........................

just take a step back and think about it!!!! Bar fines help pay for the BG's accomm provided by the bar owner & is an important source of income for BG's........... it amazes me how many people think they are gettting screwed over when in general I reckon they are getting great value for money and an excellent customer experience. All over between £3-7 per night

Guys I wasn't calling anyone a cheap charlie, it's that in the bars the BG's can be very competetive & love to gossip about each other and if they can cause the other to lose face then it's one up for them.
I can understand both sides of the story and at the end of the day it is up to the individual what he wants to do i.e. stay or go

Without naming names or picking sides, theres a lot of complex issues..

One, half the time more than a little bit of ther BF is going to the girl.. so by waiting till late you short change them as well as the bar.. I promise it doesnt make you look good (in the meal ticket sense) in thier eyes, despite what you may think...

Two, of couse everone wants to minimize costs but especially now many places are struggling to break even, thats especially true of gogo's whose main attraction is the women in them.. Everyone says Phuket lacks a good gogo scene but sit back for a second and do the maths. BF's are the lifeblood of these places when its not full of bell ringing partyheads..

As a resident I am as tight as a nuns chuff, yet I will still pay BF's if I see a girl that catches my eye (and my coast is clear etc, but thats another story) without a worry.. I know how hard it is to count a swam of bees, or keep a stable of stunners in.. If an agogo does not offer anything better than a beer bar (something patong can be accused of) then ok be close, but if a place has a serious stable of up for it, above 7 or 8's, game for a laugh, that dont come cheap..

Pay the piper IMHO.. Dont want to pay at 01:15, fine.. expect the girl will know your not going to be loose with your dosh and also expect that anyone who is, can come and make the play...

And you never answered my question either "Because a person is older and there opinion difer's from mine, Does that mean that they are right and I am wrong because they are older, Or because you presume that they have more experience?"

A prime example of this is other BMs who are considerably older than me like Dude, HJ, Happyboy, Nanaplaza etc.. Or even more extreme lets say osama bin laden for instance. If they have an opinion obviously I should respect what they have to say because they are older and have gained a lot more experience than me over the years, And due to that fact they are right? And obviously I would have to be wrong because I am only 23yrs old and have not gained the same experience as them?

yuo know what i really think is that people get so caught up in "how cheap" thailand is it almost becomes a game. in your country, you wouldnt think twice about the 5 or 7usd that a bar fine is, but it seems in LOS people almost become obsessed in how little they spend, they get a kick out of it. compare that to going on vacation in a normally priced place, where, although you probably look after how much you spend, it seems in LOS, poeple try to see hor little they can spend. i hope this ramblings makes sense

What is the 240,000 include, is that 60,000 a week just for girls and beer?

I do not believe that I spend any where near that so maybe I am a cheap Charlie, but my check bins seem big enough to me.

An old player once said to me in Pattaya, the farangs are stupid they get drunk go from place to place and then at the end of the night look a girl and then complain that all the nice ones are gone.
I don’t take the first one that I see, unless it is what I like straight up, but if I see one I like early I get here there and then. If I like where I am drinking I stay there, if I move on I take her with me, obviously. You do have to pay for 2 people drinking but I am also after the company not just a bonk.
Sometimes I see something that I think shite I would have rather picked her but the amount of times that I have thought might be something better and then come back and looked for them and they were gone or been to slow to call the one I was interested in over only to see her deliver a drink to a new arrival at the bar and then stay there, I don’t have good luck like that so I take what I think is OK, hopefully before beer goggles time. I have never haggled a BF just payed it. I might ask how much the BF is when I get there, if it is a new bar for me, and will quickly make a decision as to whether I think the girls in there are worth the extra, if the BF is more expensive than others.

There is something that I have found and it is you get what you pay for. So maybe if a girl thinks that in your opinion she is not worth 200 baht you may not get the best service IMHO. The later you take them the more tired they are, this may also equate to a lesser performance. Shite 50 minutes I could have a bonk in that time, might be the extra one you get for the time that you are with her. Just a thought.

I have also paid about 1,200 a night in Pattaya but that was it weren’t expected to pay in the morning. Same as in PI. This way the girls can’t be swindled.

I would agree that an owner ought to give some breaks to a regular customer who is spending a bit on drinks there frequently. It's only good business sense to do, to keep the customer happy, just as Nicke keeps a load of people in good spirits, handing out the Black Deaths, which don't come free to him, but makes for a lot of happy customers and a popular bar with people always in a good mood.

In the case in point, however, the owner was not there. Big difference. An owner would be stupid to authorize subordinates to give out freebies!

When you pay the BF, even if it's only 45 minutes before closing time, you are getting something for your $. You get the convenince of going where you want, when you want, and with the girl of your choice. Time is money! If you wait, you maybe don't get the girl, waste your time, and look and feel like an idiot if she walks off with another punter. Any time you hang around a bar with a stunner who works there, you take the chance that she might decide to go with someone else, who catches her eye, or is one of her regulars who just got in to town late that night. Has happened to me! Just about drove me mad one night. I wasn't trying to save a buck. Just being sociable. Normally, if I wait til closing with the girl, then I pay the BF when I call for my tab. I don't understand that people think they can not pay the BF, just because it is closing time. Isn't it normal to still pay the fine when you leave with the girl at closing time!!

In the Philippines in Puerto Galera, almost all of the girls work in discos, like go go bars. They have a sliding scale barfine, 1000 pesos($18 US) before 1130PM, 500 pesos($9) after 1130PM. The first time I went there I took 3 girls out of the bar after 1130PM for the price of 2. This decision on price was made by the bar owner as he makes most of the barfine, and the girls get 1000 pesos for LT the next morning. The bar owner supplies the girls with lodging so, along with ladies drinks, this is how he offsets the lodging costs for the girls. If he wants to give a BM a discount he can. The cashier can not do anything and will even get in trouble if he or she makes a mistake. They are even expected by the owner to make up the shortfall.

In Thailand with the girl making most of the barfine she can do as she chooses. If you leave and decide to come back at closing she might find someone willing to pay the barfine and therefore she will make more money. If she likes you maybe she will stick around until closing, maybe not. Your choice. If I really like the BG, I will try to BF her early and spend as much time with her as I can. I must admit that I usually go scuba diving during the day and am usually up early for that so the all night drinking sessions getting super mao are usually out when I am diving the next day. The employees will never be able to give you a discount unless it is approved by the owner or a manager.

Yes, it might cost me more but at least I am with the BG of my choice. if the girl is supposed to get a 500 baht barfine and most of that goes to her, wouldn't you be shortchanging her and maybe starting things off on the wrong foot? And with things the way that they are with tourism in Phuket the owner/manager might not be able to afford to discount the BF as he needs the money for operating costs. Usually he would have the surplus money from high season to keep him going in low season. And he also sees that you are thinking with your c*ck, and that while your wallet might not have come to a final decision about whether she is worth it, your body is already in bed with her so the owner has some leverage there.

Everyone on the board says that a lot of Thais think short term and this might just be the normal way for them to think of the situation. You like her, you will pay. if you had a good time, you will pay again tomorrow. There is no investment in the future, no thinking about bad reps or future referral business. Maybe this is why Nicke and Geir and some of the other bar owners on the forum are still in business and that they all know of many people and bars that are not, especially after the tsunami.

Of course, I am 45 and not such a handsum man anymore fo BG's to be giving it to me for free so I will always pay the barfine for a BG that I am really interested in. And if she is really good and fun to be with, I will give her the barfine before she has to work so that she can pay her barfine when the bar opens and we can spend the whole night together.

There is now easy answer to the question raised, but we should bear in mind that barfines are a source of income to the bar owners and the bargirl. I also understand about good customer practice - discretion only available by BAR OWNER.

Anyway here go some figures (I've been away from work for 3 days and miss my accounting fun).

Using some figures quoted let's assume that the guy paid a bar fine of 200 baht instead of 500, so that is 300 baht saving. Let's also assume that this situation of getting a cheaper barfine (i.e. only 50 mins to go) happens once a week and someone is on a 4 week tour of duty. That means that during the stay the reduced barfines amount to 1200 baht (4 times 300) - are you still with me?

BMs seem to spend around 240,000 baht on a 4 week stay, so in relation to the total spend the 1200baht equates to 0.5% of the total spend - some would say that is nothing. But to the barowners and the girls it does make a difference.

Ok seeing as you brought up this point, Now lets just say that the Bar owner refused this request by the regular customer? And lets just say the customer took offence to this and decided that he didnt want to drink at this bar anymore, Now the bar has just lost a customer! Who on a slow night would drink 4 bottles + a lady drink or two, And on a good would drink 12bottles and buy a fair few lady drinks!!!

Now multiply this by 28nights! Oh and dont forget to add on the future loss of the ex-customer's return visit's to los? Are you still adding this up??? That 300bt once a wk does not seem so much of a loss now, Does it?

In buisness you should do whatever it takes (Or whatever you can possibly) to keep your regular customers happy or even your potential regular customers happy

Anyway as the owner was not around, He could not make this decision but if he was around and I was him, I know which one I would choose

There is no looking toward the future here what you said makes sense but it dosen't happen here in Thailand.

It's amazing the things that don't make sense here to us westerners but are rules that must be followed by whoever set them.

If someone spends all that cash to fly here 2-300 baht should not make a differance and ruin the fun for the evening.
