I understand that as an Asperger's sufferer you have a hard time distinguishing between literal and nonliteral forms of language.

To tell you the truth, you should ask people around you whether they understand what you are saying and reassess your verbal communication skills. You made it this far into your life, so you must have found ways to cope with your severe autism and "thrive" in your environment.

Do you have any friends (and no, the stooges of misinformation don't count) that you can use to test your ability to use language? If not, I am sure you can ask your doctor for a referral to the Adult Asperger's Clinic. It's not too late.
