TV is on and they are showing "The Great Escape", the only time they ever show this is on Christmas Day.

I was with a girl in a pub 2 years ago and i said as a joke "we could go and watch the great escape on tv but it's finished"she replied quite excitedly "we can go to mine iv'e got it on dvd".

I took her up on the offer but never watched the film.

in america, the christmass movie is A Wonderful Life. actually before it use to be on about 5 times a dat for a month on all different channels. but a network bought the rights and now it is only shown 1 time a year. another good x-mas movie to watch when you wake up is Miracl on 34th Street. and a great comedy is A Christmas Story, witht he famous, "you'll poke your eye out" line. god i love christmas!

Maybe we should all combine Christmas with something that makes us happy.

Nothing would be better than opening my little BG present Christmas morning and then doing it again and again all day long.

2 years ago I went back to New Jersey to have Christmas with my parents. Got there Christmas morning(red eye from California) and then proceeded to clean the driveway at my parents house 4 times in order to go to a party at their friends house as it snowed(25") all morning and into the afternoon just after I arrived. We used to go on a vacation when I was younger and I really loved to do that but now they either come out here or I go back to NJ. I am an only child and none of my other relatives live within 5 hours of my parents so it is usually just the 3 of us. I would like to take my parents on vacation somewhere but my Dad can't travel much anymore. I have never married and don't have any children so not a big ocassion for me anymore but I used to have a great time when I was younger. My birtday is a few days before, my dad's the day before, parnets wedding anniversary a few days after so there were a lot of reasons to celebrate.

Christmas in LOS. Ah, one of these days, hopefully.

i think christmas would be probably the biggest thing i would want to show a tg if i brought them to the states. i think they would be blown away with just the whole scene, culminating in the big family day that they dont have on holidays

I think Christmas is great, I loved it as a kid and even though it does not mean as much to me now, Just seeing the excitement of my litte niece's and nephew's on the days leading up to Christmas and then when they finally get to open there presents is a joy to watch and brings me right back to when I was a kid and felt those exact same feelings :love:

I'll be here at Christmas trawling the Forum and weeping at the antics of the other BM's having fun on their holidays. I must be one of those masochisms or something! Probably get 'Blackhawk Down' again or 'Lawrence of Arabia' with subtitles.

IN answer to mark26 a question have you ever lived in the uk and especially Scotland for a prolonged period?

Now this may sound silly but i am extremely proud of Being Scottish i just would rather be Scottish in another warm country it does not have to be los,

What would i miss about Scotland ?

1 my friends and family
2 going to watch Kilmarnock fc on a Saturday (even though they are crap)
3 Mcewans export beer
4 mince and tatties ( i expect a few enquiries about that one 555555)
5 new year in Scotland

what i would not miss

1 the total shi te weather all year round (no wonder we moan)
2 the stupid laws that are becoming more predominant every week
3 my job!!!!!
4 the people of CUMNOCK (THE NEXT TOWN TO MINE TOTAL SHI TBAGS)
5 THE FREELOADERS who are coming to this country in increasing numbers)
6 the freeloaders born in this country who are just as bad as those above
7 driving into a supermarket car park and not being able to find a parking space because some idiot has decided to make special bays for parent/child parking christ disabled bays i can take apart from most of them being used by people fitter than myself with absolutely f uc k all wrong with them (see freeloaders above in point 6)
8 CHRISTMAS ANYWHERE IN THE UK IF I HAVE TO WATCH GARY RHODES STUFFING A TURKEY ONE MORE TIME!

everything that you just said basically is the same in the states, but its the stuff that you mentioned as positives, that to me, outwiegh any negatives of my country, and basically overirdes any negativity that i would have. i am not being condescending, but i have to tell you, i almost feel bad for soemone when they dont like their own country or where they are from. i would almost feel like an orphan if i didnt have a great love for my home. but, to each's own.

Perhaps if you spent 2 weeks in LOS and 50 weeks a year in the USA you might have a different perspective (you are currently working in Canada and have spent much of the last year in LOS?). I agree the Brits do moan about their country - we have free speech and exercise it. The Americans are IMO more patriotic than other nations, and therefore may not criticize so quickly.
