LD almost went away, but has made it most of the way back. And guess what? The world didn't end because of it! Customers are more open about their habit then ever. Pragmatic people have realized - hopefully for the last time - that this is nowhere near the top of their list of concerns.
The same would happen with MP's if the people were confronted with the facts of just how common and numerous MP clients are among the "normal " men they know and therefore facing the hopelesness of trying to fight it.
