The sad truth is, that as silly as the opinions of some here are, and yes I'm thinking of folks like snoop and qq, they just represent the dumber end of what at the moment reigns as correct political think in our society.

Most of these people are simply repeating what they hear without any understanding of what they're saying. Words like fascist, racist, and any kind of "phobe" you want to stick a prefix on have no relation to their old meanings any more. Don't think it's right for a black person to set a variety store on fire? Well obviously you're a "nazi". For others, who are more intelligent, they simply don't have the time to learn about what it means when you say you support BLM or some of the policies of today's more "enlightened" governments.

I have some news for those of you who disagree so vehemently with my position on this, if you believe all people should be equal before the law and that race should not be taken into account when there's a competition for something like a job or housing, or when someone goes to the doctor or walks in a store--then you are completely out of step with what is being taught in our schools and workplaces.

My neighbour is employed at a large corporation. Yesterday she showed me the mandatory training every employee must take. The training openly adopts the beliefs of Ibrahim Kendi and Robin D'Angelo--going so far as to quote these grifters. In case you don't know their message, it is that there is no such thing as not being racist. If you are white, you are automatically racist and the best you can do is to adopt what they define as "anti-racist" beliefs and actions. In a nutshell, that means acknowledging that in any area of life where there is a difference between racial groups--that is evidence of systemic racism. I know the implications of that are beyond some of you, but for anyone, white, black, asian or whatever...that should scare the shit out of you. We are raising generations of kids to believe this...and it's 1984 level shit. It also explains why more actual racists, people like Stripfan, BiT, Ursus etc., feel more emboldened to say the kinds of things they say. If you are a rational person who believes in the Martin Luther King credo of judging a person by their character instead of the colour of their skin, there's basically no place for you at either end of the political spectrum these days.

Governments go into debt and run deficits thinking continual economic growth will pay for it down the road. Sometimes debt is good, such as funding infrastructure, and sometimes debt is bad, wasteful spending. The “growth” to fund those deficits can come from: increased productivity, more workers and jobs, or being a first mover in new industries. The “more workers” is the easiest to solve and can either come from the native population having more babies or more immigration to find those workers. But, the white people that first settled this country aren’t having 4-5 kids per couple. Immigration 100 years ago just brought in more people that looked like the people already here (Europeans) so nobody had an issue. Immigration in the last 40 or so years started bringing different looking people than those first settlers. Immigration has helped the economies of western countries to grow. Unfortunately, the wealth divide has also grown and has created other problems.

Sidenote: Most of the Civil Wars in the last 200-300 years have started due to the wealth divide growing too wide and the poor being put into a situation with very little left to lose other than their own lives so they rise up and revolt. This is less of a risk in Canada compared to our southern neighbours. Point being, if leaders let their country divide and don’t do something to squash it, it can turn ugly

Some of the people already here didn’t have an issue with those people but others had a big issue. Most world leaders would embrace the diversity and their public comments would show that. Even if the only reason was to not let either extreme wings of the political spectrum get too big a voice. Other world leaders have taken a different approach and embraced the rhetoric of the people that don’t like immigration and/or other policies of those extreme wings. This emboldens certain types of people to spew their rhetoric even more. Polarization begins and this polarization aligns with Newton’s Third Law of Motion saying for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. For example, you get BLM rising to counter the voices of the KKK and other white supremacy groups.

Now layer the racial demographics over the wealth spectrum and wealth divide and we get a multi-headed hydra.

I’m not sure what training your neighbor recieved but I do know “unconscious cultural biases” training is being rolled out in most corporations to bring self awareness to people in how they interact with others.

I think every race is capable of racism. A white guy going to Japan or China can experience racism. The “immigrant” will always face racism from the indigenous people until either they integrate into society if society will allow them to do so, or the “immigrants” replace the indigenous. In North America, the Whites were the immigrants in the 1600-1700’s and replace the indigenous people in the 1800’s. Now, there is fear of the browning of North America within some white people’s minds.

I’ve not studied CRT, and only have a summary knowledge, so I can’t give a real in depth opinion. I wouldn’t say overt white supremacy laws exist en masse. But, I think certain segregationist practices exist that benefits whites over other races. Some key ones in the US being how city planning and bank loan practices helped direct certain races into some areas and other races into others and they don’t comingle. How some have an easier or harder time in getting a home loan. The large swaths of ghettos in the US is something we don’t see here in Canada. Jane Street from Finch down to Shepard might be the closest we have that is similar. Canada has many more races living together in the same neighborhoods than in the us that still keeps them separated. Public school funding is largely from local property taxes in the US. So, ghettos with low income, have low property taxes and low school funding. Hard to turn out large volumes of productive adults from that setup when kids look around and don’t see the way out of poverty through hard work and studying.

I think your latest post kind of proves a point I was trying to make. Most well-meaning and educated people simply don't have the time to understand CRT and its implications. Judging from your second paragraph, I think you might share some of the same problems with CRT that I have. If you believe racism can be committed against whites, the likes of Kendi and D'Angelo will flat out tell you you're wrong. Thanks. That is an interesting article. I would bet there are sadly many examples of such developments throughout Canada and the U.S.

It seems strange to me to cite a public project intended to benefit the predominantly black population of the area--and which did for decades--as an example of white supremacy. I understand systemic racism to be rules or policies which discriminate by race. Those have been illegal since the mid 60s in the U.S.

What we have today is a belief that any difference between racial groups constitutes systemic racism. I think that's wrong and does a deep disservice to ethnic minorities, especially black people. There is too much evidence to show that systemic racism does not explain these differences.
