Trump took an Oath. As President he was an officer and Executive of the US. He has promised pardons (aid or comfort). His upcoming trials will determine if in the eyes of the law whether he engaged in insurrection or rebellion by knowing making false claims about a stolen election and having his own fake electors that are now themselves being charged. Colorado ruled based on their interpretation of the Constitution.
