I also work in a salon PT (contracted), and I am having a dilemma there. I also share a room with an aesthetician who waxes in there, and the room is always a mess. Although I love the people I work with, it is less than professional at times. The room is dirty, there IS hair everywhere, and the never-ending chit-chat and gossip filters into my room while I am working. I feel sure some clients won't return because they hear things they shouldn't. (Including the F bomb from time to time).
On the good side, it is pretty laid back, and I do get a great deal with trading services and discounted products. I like to have fun at my work, and it can be a lot of fun.....but it needs to be at appropriate times. That isn't always the case, and it can be challenging sometimes. This is especially true when we as therapists always need to be professional...KWIM?
I would recommend asking to "observe" a day at the salon before committing. It is a great way to observe what really goes on, and discussing any possible issues with the manager/owner before taking the job.
Good luck!
