Hello Bodyworkers,
Most of you here know me and my story,massage therapist since 2004 and Reiki Master since 2006. OK here goes....depressed and just "yuk" for a long time now. Need suggestions to help me lift this gloom and feel better. Been going thru alot of personal things/family health issues for a while now and feel burdened and even helpless at times. Need some imput here!

How long is "a long time?"
Are there any sports/physical activities that you especially like? Some endorphins should provide a nice pick-me-up; I pretty much rely on mine
I HIGHLY recommend social dancing, especially swing dancing, if you're looking for a physical activity. The beat of the music is coneforum.xxxious, the swing scene is overall incredibly friendly and you get to have a TON of light, happy social interaction at a swing dance that doesn't require commitment, so it's less stressful.

I've dealt with major depression for about 9 years now, currently on the up-swing. I found within the last year that a diet high in carbs/sugars was contributing to my mental health in a really negative way due to blood sugar ups/downs that got my hormones going, and any stress/grief from external sources on top of the sugar rollercoaster used to set me off, big-time. Could that be a factor?

A therapist could really help with the burden, too. Therapy isn't easy, as there is usually quite a bit of emotional-scab-picking before things get better -- but, they REALLY do once you get rolling.

Also, have you gotten a massage lately? I'm feeling pretty burnt out and resentful lately, but I'm also WAY behind in getting my own bodywork and my body basically resents me at this point. :shock:

I was just thinking about hypnosis. I could release some deep feelings of resentment and burden in a healthy way without alot of emotional stress. Would this be a good thing? I am quite in need of some Reiki or massage as well. Need to treat myself to something positive. Glad to have the forum to help me right now.

I am wondering if you have stopped doing your "self-practice".

Are you doing Reiki on yourself? Best times are in bed...BEFORE you get up in the morning, and when you lie down to go to sleep at night.
Even if it's just a few minutes it may help you to feel more grounded and secure.
And then you can gain a little more clarity on your next step.

There is a lot of uncertainty in our lives and in the world...it can be overwhelming and feel futile to do anything sometimes.

Love can go a long way in healing yourself, family, and our planet.

Try doing some stretching with your focus on wood meridians, you can look up makka-ho stretches for liver and gallbladder online. Focus and breath deep into the stretch, after a few days you should begin to feel better as your body opens and seforum.xxxnant blood, lymph and energy begin to move. You can do all the reiki you like but if it cant penetrate all the way into the physical body because it is not open then the time and effort is wasted. In order to create change you have to create the space for it to happen with intention and action.

I suggest taking a dance class. You will increase your energy and endorphines, have something new and fun to do, and meet new people!

Hi Johnny,

It's good to have you back. I always enjoyed your posts.
I'm sorry you're feeling low--I have been there myself. I'm not sure if you have tried meditation before. One in particular that is quite nice is mindfulness meditation, or vipassana.
There is a program called Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). It is an amazing program for a whole variety of issues. I believe it was started in Massachusetts at Univ. of Mass. There are MBSR programs all over now.

Welcome back Johnny, I don't know whether hypnosis would help you or not. I do know that the best way out is usually through though.

Personally I have found Myofascial Release (John Barnes) to be helpful, as there is both a structural and emotional component to the work.

But there are probably many different types of bodywork which could be so transformational... just pick one and give it a spin! :altwink:

If you feel drawn to hypnosis, I say "go for it". It could be that something in your subconcious is raising it's hand and guiding you toward what it needs. Your desire to release "deep resentments and burdens" is aptly suited for hypnotherapy, which is a wonderful tool for self-exploration and clearing that which no longer serves you and possibly trips you up in life.

My recommendation is to find someone who you feel comfortable and safe with, so you can allow yourself to fully commit to the work and thus reap the most rewards.
