Sometimes, that can be just as effective, especially for sensitive points.
(I assume your practitioner is BAcC registered btw?)

Well after the initial treatment I never had anymore - don't think she was keen on treating me to be honest and I was feeling quite well and really didn't want to upset the applecart.

However it is something I'd consider again especially as I'm still suffering with the constipation. Just think the timing wasn't right but I am thinking of trying someone who I found does it nearer where I live.

Hi Janet, i have regular acupunture, and have good results. When you find a therapist, ask questions, most are more than happy to talk to you about your condition,many specialize these days. If they dont treat your condition, they may know who does.

Yes I felt that there was no connection between us - some people you find you have an instant connection and others you don't - and for me that's quite strange as normally people warm to me straight away.

But I have found someone else - just need to find the courage to contact her now.

I was a bit nervous about the whole thing to be honest and I was feeling particularly good in myself and was worried about would the experience leave me feeling ill afterwards i.e. in terms of side effects etc.

I am sure all will be OK, give the lady a ring, most acupuncturists will be more than happy to have a chat to you.

Possibly, a few people may have side effects, but usually very short lived, i have regular acupunture and i always feel really good after the treatment, and look forward to my next one.

Yes I really must do something because my constipation problems are still a nightmare and I do think that acupuncture is my way forward - I have heard and read good reports about it. This lady who practices quite near where I live I only found out by chance but I know that a local GP also does it privately - and he has to be good - his reputation and career would be on the line otherwise.

Hi Janet,

Personally i go by personal recommendation, just because he is a GP, does not mean he is good at acupuncture, it is the same in any occupation, some are good at it, some are not so good.

Have you looked at your diet for your constipation ?

What is your water intake like ?

Perhaps one of our fellow HPers may be able to throw some more light on this.

Think the GP does get good feedback - the local H & B shop recommend him.

I've looked at diet and tried loads of things but I know I don't drink enough water. However I have started to make inroads into seeing a nutritionalist. Did find someone but I just couldn't afford it - £250 initial consultation then the money for follow up appts £50-£60 and then quote £150 for supplements. OK people say what price health but when you've not got the money you can't go ahead with it.

But I'm keen to try acupuncture again - I'm also definitely going to give lepicol with the probiotics in another try - I gag a bit when I tried them in the past but I'm going to try it in yoghurt which I should manage and drink the glass of water - I may be brave and try it just in water again.

You've just answered one of your questions and it cost you nothing!

'I dont drink enough water', without enough clear fluids to flush out whatever is going on in your bowels you wont see an improvement to whatever is going on.

So how much do you drink? And what do you drink? and how often? Keeping a food an liquids diary may help.

Hot water with lemon first thing on morning, then a coffee and a tea - I drink more when I'm at work than at home.

Today I've had the above and since breakfast no drinks - just don't feel thirsty to be honest. During the day I tend to have couple cups of coffee then two cups of tea one at about 7.30 and one at 9.30 pm.

Glass of water with dinner - and last week at work I did try to drink a couple of extra cups of water.

Hot water and lemon in the morning is great for kick starting your digestive system, so a great start.

Add some more water in between your teas and coffees, even have cold water and lemon juice will make a change from just cold water. Add a squeeze of fresh orange or lime will make a change.

Have a word with your GP for how much you should aim for in a day.

Been doing the hot water thing for ages now and I honestly don't think it's made a difference.

I think drinking cold water with lemon in during the day does though - did that for a bit last year and that seemed to help.

I know - I keep saying I must drink more.

Hi Janet,

You should perhaps increase your water intake,keeping hydrated does help with your condition, also good for your skin too. Having a good balanced diet is essential too, you can do this yourself, by eating fresh veg and fruit.

I do - I eat fresh veg never frozen and fruit - believe me I've tried loads of things but just think now I've a lazy bowel. And that worries me - how do I make it unlazy!

Hi Janet,

Perhaps a trip to see your GP, they may refer you for some tests or a specialist. If you are doing all the right things, then they might be able to through a different perspective on it.At least this will not cost you anything, and worth exploring too. I know of someone who had a similiar problem, tried all other avenues, she went into hospital, and had the camera in both ends, they found a restricted area of the bowel, which they sorted, and had no problem since.

Was just thinking of that tonight actually - I'm fed up with waiting for the nutritionalists to get back to me - two I've contacted so not impressed with them.

But I am thinking of either acupuncture or reflexology as I've heard both are good.

I'm just so bloated today it's really getting me down - not sure whether it's from the magnesium and B6 I restarted taking the last two nights - that seems to unbloat me then when I get up the next day I'm bloated again - tend to take it around dinner time - can't figure out whether it's not agreeing with me, I should be taking it with calcium and Vit D or I'm not taking enough and should take it 3 times per day.

Think I may try and contact the acupuncture woman on Thursday as I only work half day - difficult on the days you work full time hours - you don't get a chance to chase anyone or anything.

Will keep you posted.

I've also been trying to find someone in the area to do food sensitivity testing but that's proving difficult too - definitely have some sort of sensitivity to dairy as when I eat yoghurts and even Yakult (which has no dairy) my face puffs and bloats!
