Ganglion cyst

I have a ganglion cyst on the inside of my right wrist. The ortho dr. said he could drain it, but it will come back. I could have surgery and that will take care of it. I really don't want the surgery because of the down time and I really don't want to go under anesthesia for such a simple procedure.

Has anyone had their cyst drained? Did it stay away? What was the down time? I'm getting desperate. I can't even cook without pain.

I had a ganglion cyst on my wrist aspirated with a needle 25+ years ago. It never returned.

Thank you Chris. That's what I wanted to hear. Actually, I was shocked when the doctor recommended surgery. I thought it a bit extreme.

Sorry to tell you RTBack, but I had a pretty huge ganglion on my right wrist for a few years. It was so hard that I used to get it caught on my jeans pocket when I tried to get something out of my pocket. I had mine drained when it was softer & it came back bigger & harder than ever. Mine was starting to throb so I chose to get it removed. Surgery was only about 30 mins under general anesthestic. That was about 15yrs ago & it has never given me any problems since, but I still have a faint 1.5inch scar to remind me. I was a chef then, not a MT & I remember I had to take it easy for a couple of weeks at work. Doing massage would be a different matter though....you'd probably need some time off.

Acupuncture! I had one. I think it's still in there a little bit because my wrist is extra cracky. But I get regular acupuncture, and I had her surround the cyst with her needles for about 1/2 dozen sessions. It finally went away, or at least down enough so I can't feel it! Yay!

The traditional way to remove a ganglion was to hit it firmly with the old family Bible.

When I had a ganglion on my wrist, I used to hit it fairly firmly on the steering wheel and it went away.

Most mechanical means can result in it coming back, whether draining or surgery.

Since then I have used both reflexology and JB MFR on ganglions and both worked well. One lady had surgery scheduled and had to call and cancel. As far as I know it never came back.

I've tried acupuncture and it didn't work on my cyst. I went in last week to get it drained and opted to schedule surgery for next week. I used to be a chef also! I think I hurt my wrists back then from lifting the huge pans off the burner. I also used to be a cashier during college and then a secretary for quite a long time. This is all over use that finally came to a head. Lifting a heavy sofa is what broke the camel's back.
