Gratuities
Texas-gal - thank you, very nicely put.
Pete - funny sign LOL
Yes. Truth is I don't separate my tips from my regular rates. It is all income and it gets reported.
Allow me a correction, I see the comparison between massage therapists and chiropractors as a huge stretch. I am not a chiropractor and I don't run my practice as if I am one.
AnneGS, It seems weird to me that you are reading the responses as fear based. Fear based how? I am a small business owner in a service based industry where tipping is considered a standard of practice. Many of us who choose to accept tips do so quite happily and look at it as a wonderful reward from the client. I don't see anything fear based about that. FWIW, tipping amounts to probably less than 5% of my income.
I think a major difference here is that some of us are not trying to ally ourselves with the healthcare industry. I think that what we do and offer is already professional and it is not necessary to get into bed with another industry -- aka: healthcare. Personally, I would rather strike a nice balance in the middle without losing anything to either end.

All those tips that add up over the year get reported on your taxes, right?
