I am very stressed these days (because of a private issue) and this probably causes me constant headache. from morning till night.

I am sure that if i managed to relax and calm, i will alleviate the pain but i haven't managed yet.

any suggestions or help will be appreciated

P.S. this period i can't sleep easily

When I was going through a hard time and couldn't sleep, I started taking valarian root at night before bed. It really helped, although I had to remember to take it with food or it would upset my stomach.

This may sound silly......but have you been getting massages?? That is always the best thing for my headaches.

When I get headaches I try to reach for the natural remedies first.

1 drop of peppermint on the temples and back of the neck sometimes will help (1 drop total not 3) Some people swear by lavendar instead, but I prefer peppermint. Sometimes peppermint tea will help

Ice to the back of the neck often makes things bearable.

1 cup of a massageplanetfinated drink sometimes will help, coffee, tea, coke.

If it is stress releated, maybe try meditating, focus on your breathing, and just try to relax and be quite for a short period of time.

Increase your water intake. Often during times of stress, we don't look after ourselves as well as we normally do. Drink up, being well hydrated will often help headaches.

If I think of more I will post them. These are just a few of the things I do for my headaches.

Oh, another thing you can do, is cool/cold around the head, and warm/heat around either your hips or put your feet in hot water. It will help reduce fluid and pressure in and around your head.
 


In the rare instances I have any kind of headache, the first thing I do is get a glass of water. If rehydrating my body doesn't do the trick, I will get a massage.

For stress, I don't wait until my body starts experiencing discomfort before addressing it. That reactive approach essentially requires waiting "until it's too late" and then trying to undo damage that has already been done, usually over a much longer period of time.

Instead, I proactively address stress by using exercises, stretching, breath training, martial arts, and other fun activities to "work out" stress before it can become chronic. Improving my eating habits has also helped a lot!

Years ago I was a short-tempered, highly reactive person that handled stress and challenges poorly. That was before I adopted the habits I now profess to others, especially to my training clients. Now I am MUCH more easygoing, confident, and capable of handling whatever comes along. :)

I went to a massage therapist once and he told me that you can usually find knots under the shoulder blade when you have a headache. Position your arm where your elbow will point backwards, kind of like your making wings with your arm. Massage that area really well, and it usually eliminates the pain.
 


I just had a client who had a headache every day for about a year and I worked on her weekly and it hardly touched them but then she announced one day that she was quitting her job and they just went away!

I've had a headache almost every day for the past 3 weeks. I've tried all my tricks. Heat, massage ointments. I think for me it is hormonal and tension related.
 


Adding to this discussion, I've seen three people with the same symptoms I'm having this week. Dizziness and headaches. Anyone else here?
 


I have one now...ugh. :( It's that upper trapezius trigger point referral.

For dizziness + headache, have someone work your SCM. It can sort of "pinch off" the vagus nerve, producing dizziness/vertigo, nausea, shakiness/weakness, and that "blah" feeling.

For headaches that I can't "sleep off", I see my chiro for an adjustment. For the rare migraine, I work SCM and I take a niiiice herb called feverfew (research coming back from Europe looks very promising...has something to do with strengthening the blood capillaries in the brain.) :)

I used to have awful headaches, when nothing ever helped. They usually lasted for few days and were very debilitating. I tried everything I knew under the sun and nothing helped. There are some mentioning about certain trigger points or places in the posts above that I didn’t know. But I found what helps me at the last workshop I took with Tom Cratsley at Lily Dale. Someone have to help you, you can’t do it to yourself. Say if I was doing it to you, I would sit you down and first feel for concentration of energy above your head. As I feel it, I would brush it off with intend to clear your thought patterns. I then place one hand on your forehead, and two fingers of another hand under occipital area on both sides of your spine. There two tender pints there. I don’t know what they are may be someone can help us with that, but they are there. So I ask you to breathe in deeply. And while you exhale, I press these points in and up, holding the forehead. Do it few times. I was amazed when my terrible headache disappeared. Next day it came back and went away after someone did the above. I then tried it on my mom and it worked too. Best wishes!
 


Being one that constantly suffers from Chronic Migraines I can relate.

Here are some things that I have tried aside from prescription meds that on occassion offer some relief.

Craniosacral still point induction--If you can find a good therapist that can do quality Craniosacral work this helps tremendously. The still point induction is a great place to start.

An ice pack on the back of the neck and a cool cloth over the eyes. The cold helps to reduce blood pressure on the brain and helps to stop the throbbing pain.

Small amounts of massageplanetfeine. (only works on rare occassions)

Soaking in a luke warm bath with no lights on and a couple drops of rosemary in the water.

Deep breathing and meditation. I have an excellent CD that walks me through an entire meditation and breathing process. A lot of times when a headache strikes I lose focus and it becomes hard to focus on breathing so having someone lead me through it helps to regain focus.

Reflexology on the hands and feet. The reflex points in the body for the head and neck seem to work well. But again you need to find a qualified therapist that can focus their intentions to help you.

I hope that some of these suggestions help. Again, knowing first hand what they feel like I can attest to the fact that not all of these will work for everyone nor will they work everytime.

I'm sorry to hear that you are having such prolonged headaches and insomnia.

For the insomnia, I use a homeopathic remedy, Hyland's Remedy for Insomnia --- usually 2 tablets, rarely 3, and I'm out like a light till breakfast, and awake without a "hangover" and am feeling much more rested.

FOr the headaches, which, may be stress induced, have you tried chucking the muscles on your skull? forehead and occiput - up and down several times, parietals, up and down several times............ doesn't necessarily stimulate the brain to wakefullness, BUT, it can and has relieved the stress "scrunchies" I've been known to put into the musculature of the skull................

just a thought.
 


Do you have access to a pool?
Floating in a cool pool helped my migraines.
Also, at the end of a shower.....slowly adjust the water cooler....the coldest you can stand it. Let it run at the back of your neck.
