Bafana, I do not know how to take your post but my assumption based on your other posts is that you somehow take offence by my post. I think you somehow think it is normal and ok for men to cheat...if so then I will say you will make someone a miserable husband. Nobody, male or female, likes being cheated on and it is hurtful and not a "good" trait. You talk a lot about your rudimentary views on biology but it is also biologically true that humans pair bond. Men in Thailands "butterflying" has cultural, not biological roots. I do not think it is unreasonable to look for a way to make a man(or woman)stay faithful in the bounds of a relationship.

To further prove my point, there is another thread where a man has asked men to try and seduce his thai wife to see if she is cheating...very well received by the men on this board...all humans want a faithful mate, male and female.

I partially agree... I think open relationships are very hard to master however I do think that if both partners can get out of thier socially programmed roles it can actually make the pair bond stronger..

It can teach both partners that love is not linked to sex, the bond between them is stronger than it is in a relationship that held together through the bartering of sexual favours (and this is far more common than is recognized IMHO) and it can also generate a feeling of being stronger / different / outsider / them and us etc to the general population and herd..

I think it is probably harder for a woman to achieve this state of mind than a man and may well require some initial 'devotion' to thier man to overcome initial insecurity.. Also our monomous society is not the end all of global relationship, polygamy and wife sharing (in african regions) is and has been practiced in many parts of the world and I dont know if it creates a worse emotional standard of living for its adherants..

I wonder if theres any stats on divorce rates between swingers and structured couples ??

I wouldnt want it to come up in the first year or two of being together.. I would need to know our bond was very strong and it wasnt a desire to stray and window shop for a replacement.. I would be reluctant for it to be with a single repeat partner.. Obviously it wouls have to be 'safe'..

However within those boundries I think I could be cool with it (and I have shared my GF's before, with permission, both while there and while not there).. Every relationship is different and if the relationship was having tough times its could signify its collapse but I dont think the monogomy thing is crucial (to me) anymore..

Ok First to LivinLos...a swingers lifestyle is not the same as cheating. I am talking only about being cheated on/cheating not choosing to swing. I know very happy swingers, have been propositioned by swingers, and yes a confession, I have been the third party in a swingers situation. Will Smith is a famous example of someone married that has an understanding with his wife and they both indulge, it works for them and power to them.

I think that is the ultimate hurt. It is also an issue here in Thailand, so it does hurt people. I also think if you speak to most Thai women who experience this they are sad, hurt, and some angry, some just come to accept it with great sadness. In the west many women cheat too, and I know many hurt men who have been cheated on. Point is that unless the terms are already agreed upon by both parties there is no way it is an acceptable bi-product of human nature. Human nature dictates a lot of things even violence but as civilised beings we curb that and our instincts do not rule out over our intellect in most situations and this should be no different. Men who say "it is in our nature" are looking for an excuse to behave as they want and if they are willing to hurt a partner for that perhaps they should not be in a relationship.

Fishead, I have not nor do I plan to be celibate, I am just more careful in Thailand than I would be in Europe or the States and the conditions I engage in sex are very different as the risks are different, it is risk modulation rather than just giving up...I love junk food, but I I have to modulate how I eat it, same with Thai men and sex.

Fishead, oh yeah, that is no problem at all to score, the Thai men are shy and awkward in flirting but once you get past that it is like anywhere else. Guys in Phuket seem more forward, but I still have not found the perfect one...like one a lot though but he is in BKK, not a butterfly though which suits me nicely. Am having fun, if I fall in love with one then it is just a bi-product of a good time anyway and I will see it as a bonus.

No Bafana, do not like to judge others, but cheating is something I do judge and my assumption was that you were somehow condoning it thus my answer. If that was not the case, then the comment is taken back, and I have no idea what kind of husband you would make.

As for me sounding like my western sisters, you really do not know me, I fight todays feminism more than anyone I know! And as for likening me to Germaine Greer, please do not. I spent a lot of time hating that woman and fighting her latest bout of female dominating bollocks. She did a photographic book on "The Boy" featuring naked and half naked boys prebuscent and pubescent and went on to say how she did it for women to take back the right to enjoy the beauty and innocence of the boy, sexually. I found the book disturbing coming from a woman who has spent her life hating men and the only purpose it served is her desire to be in control of men and the fact that she could have such control over boys. Had a man done a similar book, even without the history of hating women that she has of hating men, it would never have been published and he had been hauled off to jail. I find her sick and twisted.

As for the monogamy concept, it is both cultural and biological. But so too is female celibacy and loyalty. If you want to go pre jesus europe then you will see orgies where men and women partook quite evenly. Thai culture and the african cultures are also cultural in that the women are more monogamous than the men, this is not biological it is cultural. But without any bounds humans would essentially be monkeys shagging everything we fancied whenever wherever. The evolotion of culture is what sets us apart to a large degree.

I will kill some of you now, but I have it from a good source that there is a five year plan to stop prostitution in Thailand...in all forms. The first phase was apparently to stop all night partying by imposing closing times, second is to close down all massage parlours and health centers doubling as brothels or places of prostitution and this has just gone into effect last week. I do not know the rest of the plan but I have a really good source who says the government is vey serious about it.

Interestingly, talking of change, the current king is the firt king to be monogamous by all accounts. In the highest classes in Thai culture this is apparently a trend that is relatively new to the country. At the same time Thailand is becoming a more developed country, it would be interesting to analyse whether the two are related in some way as I think they are.

If it did happen which it probrubully won't it will just shift the buisness to other parts of South East asia including the Philippines that has long been a rival to the Bangkok scene. I've heard lots of people are going to Angelis city in the Philippines. Its supposed to be a great scene. Either way I can't see the naughty nightlife closing down. They tried it in Korea which is much more developed than Thailand and that was pretty much a failure.

Stopping the prostitution in Thailand is a task that would have enourmous social and economic impact.. Look at power people like chuwit running multi million operations of massages etc..

Really cant see it within a 20 year timeframe..
