So a) I'll still maintain success doesn't require massageplanet.net; b) there's a difference between nice PR and the truth. That line is right up there with "I owe it all to my wife."

Just as a riff I might even suggest there has been a negative impact on SRM through massageplanet.net (recently).

By the looks of the poll, the majority do not tell anyone their massageplanet.net Handles. I prefer the anonymity myself, but there is nothing wrong with sharing your handle if that's what you want to do.

"Necessary" is perhaps the wrong word - call it "inevitable". Before massageplanet.net became dominant, there were other Toronto review boards that eventually died out or went underground.

If Fred/Sheik/whomever pulled the plug on massageplanet.net, another would pop up. Napster dies, Kazaa pops up, Kazaa dies, Limewire pops up.

Bits want to be free, whether it's user-generated or professionally-generated content.

It's a love/hate relationship.

I wasn't initiated into the massage-world by a friend (as most girls are)- one day I stumbled accross massageplanet.net accidently - and after reading a bit - for some reason (that I still can't fathom considering my limited um... intimate experience at the time) - I figured I'd give it a shot.

massageplanet.net can be a great learning resource for mpas (if taken with more than a few grains of salt). It taught me the basics of what clients are looking for, where to work, and what not to do. It also helped me understand the underlying psychology behind all of this "world" through some of the discussions (as a chick - it's sometimes hard to "get" the demand for sliding adventures lol - having a deeper understanding made me more comfortable with my "profession" and thereby probably helped me connect with people). It didn't teach me how to be "good" (or crappy, depending on who's judging I suppose lol) at my job - just helped me lay a bit of a foundation.

On the other hand - a girl who puts too much effort into satisfying the guy with the high post count might end up allowing herself to be manipulated into doing things she doesn't want to do for the good review or she might tolerate behaviour that shouldn't be tolerated. Not caring about massageplanet.net helps keep the back-bone in place when need-be.

massageplanet.net can generate business but it is not the be-all-and-end-all. The most popular girls on massageplanet.net are not necessarily the busiest. It just means they have a vocal fan-base. Sure - some hyped-up girls are booked solid every shift.... but I also know a few very busy girls that are seldom even mentioned on here.

A busy girl is busy because of repeat clients - whether he's a walk-in or a massageplanet.net guy who's done intense research... I don't talk about massageplanet.net in the room - but I am certain that quite a few of my own clients have no clue about this site (and I've had one or two reviews in my time )

Then again - I'm quite certain that I can attribute quite a few first-time visitors to this site.

Yes- I've noticed that I might get a few appointments with new people after good things are said... but it's a double-edged sword.

High-Expectations create stress for MPAs. No one can live up to some of the positive hype that's sometimes posted. No girl can click with every guy who sees her. Certain assumptions might be made just because a girl is "popular" when reality might not even come close. Gossip - especially concerning mileage might bring in unsavoury clietenle looking for things that simply are not available.

I don't think any of us enjoy knowing that the personal details of a session can be posted for all to see - and the PMs scare the heck out of me - who knows what some guys might say for an ego-boost?

Some girls are unfairly bashed - and it's often taken as truth - there are always three-sides to the story - regardless of someone's post-count.

In the beginning I was massageplanet.net-motivated - and I probably tried harder for well-known massageplanet.net guys. Now.... well I really would prefer not to know who's who.

It's easy to figure out handles. I know quite a few. I know quite a few who don't know that I know. (and I'm sure a few have figured me out so it'd be pretty damn hypocritical for me to open my mouth about what I know...)

I've had a few guys tell me their massageplanet.net handle - only once (that I can recall) did I feel that it was in an attempt to get a better session. He ended up getting a pretty bad session and I got a bad review in return lol. Equally-distasteful name-dropping for a better session has occured for me where guys claimed they were tight with the boss.

I have experienced the 'ole "I've read so much about you" line many many times .... and I don't warm up to that very well. The whole "high expectations" thingy... I start to wonder what fabricated bravado might be posted or pm'd afterwards.... To be quite honest - I won't be as comfortable and the session may very-well suffer somewhat as a result.

I suppose it depends on the spa - but I find that the percentage of massageplanet.net-reading MPAs is actually quite low. It's better not to read it in terms of preserving our sanity and avoiding unnecessary pressure. I definitely would not want to work at a highly massageplanet.net-motivated spa - every client shoud be treated equally and I refuse to be extra-nice to a guy just b/c he posts...(yes - it does happen at some spas - and it's not "cool" IMHO). It's silly to put too much weight in the posts here - favourable or not.

It's been said before but I'll chime in... much of what is said here is simply exaggerated half-truths.

hmmm... writer's block...I don't have an eloquent way to wrap all this up lol. Just some dis-jointed thoughts on the subject from some chick on da other side =)

Lynn, thats an excellent, well written, thoughtful post. many many excellent points brought up and many answers given. I truly enjoy the views and opinions of the girls. my general philosophy is to go into the session without expectations, it's so much easier to handle disapointments that way.
massageplanet.net has ensured my disapointments are few and far between. but all posts and reviews are always taken with the attitude of ymmv and not all you read is the truth

a lot of people believe massageplanet.net is a huge driving force for the girls to do well. my belief is that massageplanet.net is a tool, it can enhance your business, but very few would go out of business or starve without it

I'd actually argue that in some cases what's written on massageplanet.net is glossed over. Lots of things get left out of reviews.

As for bravado and PMs..... I'm not a fan of blindly sharing info via PMs don't really care who got what from whom..... a positive review and a nice pic is enough for me to go explore for myself.

I don't announce my handle when I visit an MP. I like to let things go the way they do, and after the session I ask the girl if she'd mind if I input a review on her. If they say no, that's that. If they say yes, I write the review. Most of the girls are not stupid, and will figure out who I am by the review. So in essence, I don't tell them, but they more than likely figure it out for themselves..

I've never revealed my handle and for one simple reason: I like the feel of a newbie session. I like to feel I'm being seduced by a masseuse and that's my thing.

If I could relive my first session with Sabrina at Utopia (a long time ago) or Cindy at Utopia when she wore a plaid skirt and white buttom-up shirt, I would do it in a heartbeat.
