ID to get in to clubs

On several occassions on entering a nightclub the girl I was with has been asked to show her ID.
I usually ask them if they want to see mine and am always met with a resounding NO!!!

But from his OP it does seem quite dissimilar to the above situation, under age Asian girl vs. of Age farang male... but I guess police raids do not discriminate!!!

Only stating facts... but contradiction in advice provided to the OP.

Of age farang should carry copy of proof of age, however "low as to be near nil" chance of problems for taking his underage brother into clubs!!!

Given context of posts (OP thinking that he should forge passport copy) understandable, but never the less still a contradiction of logic...

Not really (or at least I know what I mean )..

I mean the chance of a raid is extremely low, the few raids that have happened in Patong havent targeted farangs.. But not having ID with you is silly, loads of reasons why you might need it (drugged, seizure, medical emergency, vehicle accident, next of kin, etc etc etc) not even considering the possible police 'you must carry ID' law that exists.

Yeah, I understand that it sound stupid helping him fixing a fake ID by photoshopping his passport copy, but I thought that that was waterproof... Thought that in case of a police raid, they would only check the copy to see the birth date, but if they have some way to see if passport copys are valid, then it's not such a bright idea.
But you're right, forging a passport sound pretty serious if you would get caught...

But I know my brother and I know he will just borrow an ID from an friend (who is 20) if I don't help him.
Do you think I should try to talk him out from using a borrowed ID in Thailand as well and say that it's simply just the best to take the low consequences if getting caught by police as minor in Thailand, and that he doesnt wanna end up getting caught with a fake ID as that is far more severe.

If he is gonna go anyways. I would suggest the latter. I wouldn't want to be caught in a foreign country with any kind of forged or inaccurate ID for the above mentioned reasons. I'm sure he can still find a way to have a good time arty:

However small the chance is though, if he gets caught I'm sure there are some kind of repercussions. Maybe a BM here can explain what oculd happen if caught underage in a bar and who's held responsible. Like it was stated, I've only heard of the raids looking for minor employee's, not tourists...

Carry ID.. Chances are he wont be challenged.. If he is, move on to another place..

If theres any police problem.. You have your ID.. Its legal..

Just stick to what it should be and everyone will have a great time.

I have been in Tiger on 3 occasions where the police come in with torches.
It's not pleasant anticipating a body search as I have seen a few times.
I was never asked for ID but wouldn't go out without it.
If they want to get nasty, they can.
Legally you should always have your passport... a copy should be ok.

There's a place on Bangla that will put an invisible ink barcode on your forehead for B1400 (contains all basic details, DOB, accomodation address, etc so you don't need to carry ID). As you walk past the scanners in the discos it allows you free entrance and 1 drink. Valid for a week apparently, just off to test mine tonite.

Actually Viper Thai law says that you must have your current passport with you at all times. However, if you don't want to have it with you it is acceptable that you have a photocopy (preferably in color) of your passport AND a copy of the page that has the current Visa Stamp on it. If you have those two items you can leave your passport back in the safe at your hotel and you should have no problems with local authorities.

friend of mine lives in pattaya and for id he carries a small plastic credit card sized copy of his passport. he got it done at a copy shop over there.
as gymunited says..you don't wanna risk carrying passport around especially if on the beer.
