Actually, I think bars and county and neighborhood fairs all fall within the same 'problem gray area'. If the person is seforum.xxxgering, has slurred speech, or shows any other signs of being intoxicated, I would say NO. Other than that, I think we should use our own judgement with the person still being informed of the 'possible' side effects. I'd also say limiting the massage to no more than 10 minutes might also be a good idea.

Just adding in my 2 cents worth... I've seen a lot of people here offer chair massage in health food markets, golf stores, sports stores, with permission from parks, Barnes & Noble Bookstores or other coffee shops, etc.Hope it helps!

I don't think chair massage belongs in a bar at all.  Of course, there is the contraindications when mixed with alcohol.  But, what about the impression it will give people about massage?  The industry is struggling enough with it's reputation and doing chair massage in bars only hurts it.  

People are getting their "relaxation" from the alcohol and I don't think they need a massage to help them relax.  When I was first getting out of school, someone suggested that to me and my first thought was that it was just sleezy.  Who wants to be subject to intoxicated fools who might get the wrong idea?  NOT ME!  If someone wants to do it because they think that the tips might be good, well, then I think they are in this business for the wrong reasons.

I could not have said it better! One of our hotel clients wants us to do free chair massage during their nightly wine hour. On top of all the above, I don't think 5 minute tastes sell $125 in room hour-long sessions.

Just to add my 2 cents.... Just out of school (got my liscense in the mail that day in fact) I was booked for some corp evening VIP thing in a high-end hotel in Scottsdale. The co. that booked me was in Georia, and they only had contact with the event coordinator, a party co. so I had no idea what I was going into. It turned out to be a corp party for a securities broker conference, and was hosted by JP Morgan, the maker of Camel and Kool cigarettes. They had live music, pool, a casino, buffet, a bar, a fog machine, etc. They even had cigarette girls passing out packs, and sex worker types getting the men to dance. When I walked in, I thought "Why in the hell is there massage here??" The co. that booked me had me use a short and sweet waiver, that mulitple people could sign on, and I asked everyone how much they'd had to drink. Anyone who was obviously drunk, or said they'd had more than 2 drinks, I turned away, and politely explained that the massage would make them sick. Everyone was cool with it, and the massage turned out to be everyone's favorite activity, not the casino, pool, or B celebrities that they had booked. So, as far as a bar scene, I would say go for it, but make sure you hace your insurance, and have a short waiver (I have one I can email you if you need an example). I would also as to set up in a lounge area vs. right at the bar, and I would target maybe an older crowd, not the young scene. Hope my story helps!!
