I'm sorry if I came accross arogant with the term 'real bodywork'. Of course anything we do can be real bodywork as long as its legal. And I also believe that any treatment as long as a persons heart is in the right place is beneficial as long as it feels good.
I suppose I have a personal prejudice against spa treatments as opposed to someone who is really willing to say get into and spend the time and work out my upper traps.
Where do I get my personal prejudice with spa treatments?
My wife and I shared a studio with another bodyworker for a period of one year. This 'therapist' fancied herself a sports specialist. When I traded with her she used some hot towels jamed her elbow into my back and didn't even touch my glutes, in fact she drapped them so it was impossible to work on them.
Well she probably did a thousand dollars a month gross because she could sell herself while my wife and I did less then half that. Not to say that my wife and I are the end all of massage but we certainly know how to do glutes.
Basically what it came down to was someone who could sell and do some hot towels and an elbow, was doing bettor then someone who wasn't into sales but did conscientious work. So I guess thats my frustration. In no way am I saying anyone on this board doesn't do 'real bodywork'. I can just say the officemate of my wife did not, and was somewhat financially successful.
