Indian Champissage

Does anyone now about the London school of Indian Head champissage? I'm thinking of doing a head and face massage course there. I'm also considering doing an ITEC massage course and it seems to cover head and face to. Would it be a waste of time spending all that money on three seperate courses? Since it is costly, i'd be grateful for any feedback before I part with my hard-earned cash! I also want to makesure I'm going for the right course!

Hi Sara, do you mean the London Centre of Indian Champissage, run by the Mehtas? It is meant to be a top place. I got a good endorsement from a fellow HPer and have heard positive things elsewhere, and I'm booked on their July course. Maybe you could enrol on just one of them for now and see how it goes? I think their facial course looks wonderful.

I get the impression that therapists tend to do the Indian Head separate from their massage training. I don't have massage training myself. When I was looking around at IHM courses there were a couple you could only do if you had a massage qualification.

The new ITEC AP&M course does indeed include head and face massage, this won't qualify you to do IHM, or 'facials' in the accepted sense as the face is included as part of a whole body massage. You can do facial massage as part of ITEC Aroma or take a VTCT in it, (I think). ITEC IHM is an easy add-on but the AP is a pre-requisite. You can do this as a theory only paper is you don't want to learn full body massage.

How and what you do greatly depends where you want to go with it. If you want to be a bodyworker over several disciplines, ITEC is a good place to start. If you want to do IHM to great depth as a specialist field then you have probably got the right course in the one you are looking at. You could split the difference and do the ITEC AP & M as your generalist training and do your speciality course as well.

Be aware that therapies are addictive, once you have done one you will probably want to learn them all!

IHM is completely different from the massage they will teach you as part of the full body so yes would recommend a good course for IHM as well.

Thank you all so much. This really helps. Yes it the school run by the Mehtas that I'm planning to attend. I was going to apply for both courses, but they suggested I concentrate on one at a time. So I'm going to go for the head massage first, and then the face once I've completed the case studies and exam. But the face massage really does look fantastic. Thanks for the additional info re: Itec massage to. There's so many courses out there it gets a little confusing! But I'm starting to get a better idea.

Thanks Sue that's really nice of you. I actually went for an Indian Head massage at the school a couple of weeks ago and luckily they showed me the article, which was interesting. Was really impressed by the school not forgetting massage.

Haven't quite decided which to do first! They both look good! However looking into doing an ITEC Complimentary Therapy Course at City and Islington College which includes head massage. Don't know if you've any knowledge of this course or what it's like? Bit it incoperates a lot of things. So may do the face for now until I've decided what to do next.

And what's the difference between the Champissage & the ITEC diploma?

not sure if there is too much difference in the techniques taught , the Champissage course is the original IHM course and all others are derived from this in some way. I have seen the IIHHT course book for example and the routine looks almost exactly the same.

The A&P is also the same as you need to know in detail about the bones and musxles of the face and head.

Where they might differ would be on contraindications , and on some of the health and safety and first aid that ITEC might expect you to know.

Also you are expected to do alot of the work for the Champissage course yourself and to write up a project on one of a range of topics in your own time.

ITEC might be smaller chunks of info over a longer time ( but still similar tution hours) ie Champissage was 3 x 8 hour days ITEC might be 10 x 2.5 hour sessions .

I really enjoyed the Champissage course and felt great getting the info "from the horses mouth" (so to speak)

Thanks to Janey's recommendation I've just been on the Mehtas' IHM course and the London Centre of Indian Champissage. It was simply the best course I've been on for a long time and I'd happily recommend it. Now I'm itching to get my hands on volunteers . Funnily enough I haven't had a shortage of offers...........
