There is never such a thing as Friends with Benefits. You pay for that Benefit one way or another. Sometimes it is material things, other times, it is mental torture.

Still cheaper than paying spa rates. And if you know what your getting into, and know when to get out, you leave with your mind un tortured

Never had but would have liked to experience.
I would hazard to guess .... there could still be hidden costs above and beyond the monetary cost of hobbying.
I keep try to keep my cost down sticking with regular "go to" MPAs without committing to firm set schedule. Varies once every 1 to 2 weeks.
Now I only occasionally try "well reviewed" girls to optimize the return on my $$$

Hey I agree with you and I’m not saying free. In my cases any friends I’ve had I have always paid something. Just highly reduced and still always at the spa, I’m not able or willing to see outside the spa. That takes to much time and a sort of commitment I’m not willing to provide. These situations have worked for me in the past. And when it was time to slow down or come to a end, both parties move on and still remain acquaintances. I never let any friendship get to close, so no need for anyone to get hurt or vindictive.

May not work for everyone.

At my age, I do not want to see civies. I have a saying. When you lease (rent) you pay as you go. When you buy as in dating civies, or worse in a long term relationship, if something happens you end up paying "Property Tax" as in maintenance etc.

When I say civies I really mean FWB. Both the ladies and I know where we stand. It's a mutual arrangement. It might involve a dinner, a bottle of wine, and/or a country drive every now and then. Then off for some fun. No commitment on either side.

I'd say I've changed the way I hobby. Started when COVID hit but the economy has a role in it I guess. I realized that I was pissing away too much money on mediocre experiences.

Now I have a set of regulars.

2 legit MPAs.
1 semi spa owner with holistic benefits.
1 civie ex MPA.
2 divorced civies who just want some occasional company. No strings.

This is what works for me. But everyone's situation is different.

I hear you but nothing is 100%. I had a lady friend - she is worth a lot after a divorce. I guess she was a bit lonely. We were both in our 50's then. It started as a FWB. At that time I was married but having some problems but with a kid at home, was not prepared to leave just yet.
After 6 months she became really clingy. Was even prepared to buy my then wife off. Took a long time to sort out. Now, we are FRIENDS but no BENEFITS

I totally get it. I used to see a once popular Asian MPA outside of the spa. She was lonely and wanted someone to hang out with and have a little fun She turned into a stalker. Constant texts asking where I was and what I was doing. Random phone calls at all hours. She'd even text girls she worked with in the past to see if I had been to a spa. After one of the girls showed me the text I finally had to tell her to stop calling me and blocked her number.

Luckily she didn't know where I lived. Lol!

Inflation affects those with fixed income - salaried or otherwise. Before the crash with our portfolio showing massive gains we feel rich and spend a lot. Now with a lot of portfolios down 50/70% it is hard to swallow.
As a wise person said. High inflation favours the rich. With GIC's paying 3/4% those with cash are really cashing in short time. As the OP said, when your expenses go up by $500 a month and your salary stays the same you have to cut back on some things.

I diversified into divorced civies, uft student, same vicinity fwb. Far as MPAs, I don't bother going anywhere over 20km no more.

I am happy with my life. Go bang anyone I want any time I want at spas. Some come over to my place for fun. No strings attached. I always warn them not to fall in love so no one gets hurt. Thank God I am still going strong at my age and girls are easily available..

While true that the expense side of your business has increased, the fact that hobbyists are using shrinking discretionary funds will quickly be put off by the establishments who are first to increase door fees.

Going to a spa is somewhat like those druggie who will always find money from drugs lol.

I stop going to the spas who charges extra for room fees when there are spas still charges the same rate.

The mpa can set whatever prices she thinks she deserves. Ultimately it is thr customers not the mpas that dictate the prices. I used to go to barbiehouse once in a while. After they jacked up to 200 bucks, I haven't went back since
