Ionic detox foot bath

Hopefully I described this right. The machine you put your feet in water and the water turns color as it detoxifies you.

I was wondering if anyone used this. I am thinking of getting one of these for my practice but can't find a good location at a reasonable price for these. Maybe a place with a payment plan? lol

If this has been discussed before pardon my poor search skills.

here is some of what breathe said:

I've researched, AND reproduced the effects with no feet in the water.

The gunk is emulsified skin oils, the colors are the result of metals, oils, trace minerals and other substances on your skin AND on the device.

I also did an experiment where I exfoliated, then washed one foot really super well with a soap that stripped all the oils from my skin, then washed and washed again until I was pretty sure no soap was on my skin. Water turned rusty colored, (presumably from the electrical current, saline water and the iron contacts,) but no sludge, no green, no yellow, no swirly colors

Then I did a second treatment on the other foot. Should have been pretty clear, since I had already "detoxed" somewhat on the other foot, right? Nope. It was spectacular with the "dirty" foot. Specks, sludge and a lovely brownish green color.

There are a few articles you can google that explain the real science behind the ionic foot bath, and thoroughly debunk the claims. They are difficult to find though, because of all of the advertising and promotion.

I am along the same thinking as breathe on this one ccmarie. I am just not convinced they are real, but people keep telling me I need to get one. They are real, they are fantastic, I felt so much better after, etc.

We offer this treatment at the salon I worked at..I tried it once. I felt kind of energetic after, but I'm thinking it just felt nice having my feet in hot water..I have heard some people at the salon say how they felt so awesome after and could now "take a flight of stairs with no pain" or whatever the claim may be...

with that being said, I tend to agree with Breathes post on it..we have a list of all of the colors and what they mean etc..it just is all "too good to be true to me" personally, I'm wondering if it's a placebo effect too..I've always thought that..

When my clients ask me about it I tell them the claims I've heard and then I tell them what I think..it's up to them to choose for themselves..but like Breathe had mentioned I don't promote it at all, I would feel wrong to do that..

Thanks for your post jacqueline it helps me some. Will need to look into them more before I intend to shell out those big bucks for something that may or may not work.

Hadn't thought about the ethics of offering this service before reading the posts here. I don't know whether it works or not, would need proof myself with tests. To bad I don't have access to a machine to do my own testing with.

Today at the salon I work at the owner (who completly believes in the ionic foot detox) said she hasn't done it in awhile and said shes going to start keeping up with doing it because she felt so much better when doing it.. so, there are definatly people who have been made believers by using it..

Funny this came up. I have a client who is an MT and Energy Worker who was on my table a few nights ago.

She owns a "foot bath" and while I was working on her we got to talking. She commented how she has one of these machines and how she was loaning it to a friend, and that it was wonderful. She mentioned that what she found it was great for was helping clear out emotional "stuff" and that it helped with a "vibration" which helped a person cleanse better. She also commented that she isn't using it near as often on herself as she should, and that she has a reflexology client who commented to her, that the reflexology sessions are much less painful when the MT uses the ionic foot bath first.

I didn't solicit this info or even start talking about it, so I figure it was put out there for a reason.

Hello everyone,

Well, my 2 cents here. I had the treatment done today by a licensed massage therapist. I could not believe the color of that water afterwards...It was BROWN. She has a professional tub series, and I believe she mentioned that it had cost her around $ 1600.00
She did say that there are less expensive ones but they are not as effective as the one she uses. I saw what resembled itty bitty "worms" in the water, they were a bit hard to see, but they were there. I also saw some white circles that apparently could have been yeast. I basically soaked my feet in the water for 30 minutes. I had been sick with the flu and had been very congested for a while, I saw some sort of layer on the water, the therapist said that was all mucus. There were 4 other ladies that had the treatment done and we took before and after pictures. We had a girl's night and we were all in the same room getting the treatments done, we all noticed that all of us made the water change into different colors. I have to admit, there is quite a shock factor when you see the color of that water after the session ends. All I can say is, placebo effect or not, that water was sure NASTY! :shock:

I feel fine actually and not as congested, BUT I did take some nasty cough medicine today that a friend of mine swears by, so I do not know if that is the cause for feeling better, but supposedly the layer that I saw on top, was mucus. I had the treatment done around 4 hours ago. All I can say, was that the water was UGLY looking! I am now reading Breathe's post on this...VERY interesting.

All I can say is, placebo effect or not, that water was sure NASTY! :shock:

I can say, that is enough to make me want to use one, placebo or not. Why would I want nasty gunk on my feet if there is a way to get it off?!!!

I found her comments to be very informative, check out the link at the top so you can read some more before you decide to have the treatment done. All of us girls that did the treatment noticed that the water came out in different colors for each one of us, could it be to the ionic device and our skin oils?

Well, right now I am not coughing and I do feel better, I am still wondering if it was that cough medicine. It smelled like Pinesol and the taste was horrible, yuck! LOL!

Well, I just did a search in abc news and found some info about the foot baths. Here's what I read...

According to a retired psychiatrist, the skin excretes some water and salt, but just the idea of waste being eliminated through the feet is not true. Basically, waste is detoxified through the liver and eliminated by the kidneys. I can hear the word placebo in surround sound in my head! :

This is why I always question the detox diets, drinks, etc. If your body needs that much assistance to "detoxify," then doesn't it mean that your liver and kidneys must not be functioning properly? If your kidneys and liver are not functioning properly, then I think you've got bigger things to worry about that I wouldn't trust a foot bath to fix.

OK. I am not in the boat that the ionic foot baths detox the body through the feet, but I do think they do something or other, rather we know the "how" or not. For all I know they work with the meridians in some strange way.

So, my husband who doesn't believe in anything that's hooy-ish, is our guniea pig for the foot baths. We know someone who we barter with so he's testing them out to see how it works and what it may or may not do to/for him.

I will update this post as I can, and if the system won't let me in after a while, then I'll make a new post.

Here's whats happened so far, in approximately 1 to 2 times per week appointments, though a week or two was missed along the way:

Appt. 1 - The water became foamy and a sewer brown color. He said it smelled.

Appt. 9 - Water brown with many, many black flecks. (No foam.)
Appt. 10 - Water foamy & brownish orange.

I have had a few treatments. Not close together as recommended. They were probably a month or more apart, this is due to location...the massage therapist who has the equipment is an hour from me. I will continue to have them intermittently as I see needed.

Aside from the color of the water, something solid made its way out of my foot...like a sliver, splinter or something. Came out at home...did not come out and end up in the water. That area of my foot was very painful while it worked its way out. It started out sore, then progressively the splinter made an appearance. I thought maybe I stepped on something but I rarely go barefoot.

One of my big toes has terrible range of motion and probably has arthritis...it swells occasionally and gets so sore that I cannot walk on it. I feel that the ionic foot bath has made a huge positive change there.

After a session, I feel deeply relaxed. My mother, on the other hand, gets so jazzed up that she talks non-stop, LOL! :

I don't know...all I do know is that certain things work for me and this is one of them. I was hugely skeptical going into my first treatment. As side note, for me, having a foot reflexology treatment is like having a complete 90 minute massage session. My feet are very sensitive.
