Is anyone as picky as I am about...
Just a few thoughts on the subject:
Each of us are affected by the "energetics" of those around us in a variety of ways. Daily experiences include interactions with our partners, family, friends, co-workers, clients & perfect strangers. We've all been "put-off" by the obvious emotional outbursts of others, in the case of physical, verbal, or written "assaults". The effects are many - sometimes causing a fight or flight response - anger and perhaps an equally offensive responsive attack back toward the original offender - or feeling hurt, emotionally or physically & withdrawing... Other times we may be manipulated by someone, so that they can gain something they want from us, whether that is power, control, money, or simply our time and energy, which may leave you feeling used, drained, etc. I tend to think of the latter as "vampires", who take what they want because they think they're entitled to it, some of whom do it with malice & forethought, while others just seem to do so out of need with little, if any thought, for how they drain others and the impact it makes on them. Any of this is worse of course if you do not have & hold strong boundaries.
Sometimes we are profoundly moved by the kindness and good intentions of another person who reach out to us with a compassionate heart, and genuine concern. This sort of individual allows us to be more open and trusting of them, so that we can relax & let down our "protective" walls so to speak. This can be a good thing, so long as those involved have integrity about the way in which they are presenting themselves.
We all must practice discernment in whom we choose to involve ourselves with, whether it is a professional person we have sought out for their knowledge & training, services and treatment, etc. or those with whom we have around us as friends & family. Hopefully we all put some real thought behind the reasons we do the things we do, those we choose to trust and hang out with, the items we purchase or the things we decide to do with our time and energy.
Energetic healing can be a profound experience and have many positive outcomes, just as with bodywork. There are many different modalities that fall under the heading of Energywork, some of which may appeal to one person, but not another. Some of it has scientific study and proof behind it, while others do not. Whether it's been "proven" to be effective or not may simply mean that no conclusive testing has been done. As with anything else, tests and studies cost money. Whatever the case may be, many of these healing arts have been around for centuries and been used by ancient cultures who found value in them. Of course it was all they had, along with Wise Women, Shamans, Kahunas and the like - many of whom trained under the supervision of another healer in their traditional forms of medicine.
Just as with your medical doctor, who has a degree up on his or her wall, many of us who do energy work have the training and certification for what we do. Some people really do seem to have "gift" for healing others, regardless of whether they have a piece of paper saying they hold a certification/degree, etc or not. However there is little regulation for many of the healing arts in this realm - beyond acupuncture and a few others. So seek out testimonials, ask some questions, and do your homework when seeking out someone to do any form of treatment. And beyond the "proof" you may find of training, and those who have experienced the work of another, practice discernment and by all means trust your gut instincts!
