One very nice story relayed to me by a guy I used to work with and be in a wierd biz game together with.. This guy was a German who had grown up in the hardship and rubble of the 2nd world war... The first time he ever met a man of color was an American GI as part of the occupying force. At this point he was eating dirt and literally starving and true to the generous spirit of the servicemen a black guy called this little snot bundle over and gave him a GI ration Hershey bar.

This was the first time he had ever tasted Chocolate and remembers believing that the negro soldier was made of chocolate !!!

We live in such a different world from a generation ago.

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement.. I have never been called chocolate before by anyone other than my grandmother. So you folks make me feel right at home. I wish I could remove my post because I do not care any longer....I'm ready to go and have a ball. In fact I will be eating Ramen Noddles and crackers for the next few weeks to save some money for the ladies.............As well friends don't worry about me and that American superioty thing, hell sometimes I hate Americans when I travel abroad (only if my American colleagues are pulling that we are the best shit) thats why I will be wearing my viva Canada T-shirt (plus it keeps potential terrorist or kidnappers away). my friend is coloured and came with me first trip.he used to get comments made to him but i dont think they where serious racist jibes,i am not being racist but they used to say no boom boom chocolate lover and things like that.i think because they where scared he was packing to much meat.but in general he didnt have any problems.

BM is short for Board Member, Black Death is a Vodka/Turkish Pepper shot but unsure what mai sabai means in Thai as I am a LOS virgin, possibly 'no thanks' or 'not ok'...

BM means board members, those of us who post here onthe board. You are a new BM, also known as a newbie. He means you might run into some of us if and when you go to MTB(Mai Thai Bar). NIcke who is our host here on the board is the proprietor of MTB. Black Death is a drink which you only get at MTB, a house specialty at MTB. Mai sabai is the Thai words for " It's not going good" or " I don't feel well." Some people like Black Death which is a very powerful drink, some others, like Eric-the-Viking, can't handle it.

I often wear my "All Canadian Drinking Team" Tee shirt with a big maple leaf on it when I am abroad, particularly in the middle east, as this borrowed nationality is so harmless!! Thai girls like the brits but "love" Americans long time... Be careful Mank10, hold onto your heart and enjoy the ride. It will be a the biggest blast you have ever had!! Keep eating the crackers.

Make sure when you get here you let us know before hand.. The girl quality and attitude is better than Samui (though I do love the clubbing and serentiy of Samui a lot)... Lots of people to meet easy and get the guided tours..

Mai Sabai = not feeling well (sabai can also be more serentity / relaxed / etc) so black death obviously does not fit for Eric (what kind of Viking are you ) !!! Personally I love turkish peppers so assume unless Nicke has some secrets that they would do me grand...

With a positive attitude you will have a ball, remember any reaction you might sometimes see can also be due to simply the rarity of meeting a black guy, some ofthese girls are not long out of the rice fields (and often sweeter for it)..

My 2 cents from my 6 years of Thai experience. 1st, my Thai wifes best friend in Texas father is African American, my wife's friend prefers chocolate man too.

Many Thai girls like chocolate man, and some I have met do not. This said, I have not encountered any maliciousness on the part of Thai's towards African Americans. Just walk down beach road in Pattaya when the US navy is in town and all you hear from the bars is rap music. When the navy leaves it goes back to other music. This just shows that they adjust to the color of money. That's what it is all about for them, making a living.

Bottom line is, treat everyone with respect and you get it back. One thing I've learned from working in Thailand, Singapore, and Europe is that the Americans who promote the we are the best s--t does not go over well. I have never agreed with the US is best B---S--t anyway. Sure, we have a good life in the US, but once you have tasted other cultures it really changes your perception of many things about the US and the rest of the world.
