Whilst I've read the book, and many others with the same theme, I feel that it is way over the top with all the negative experiences happening to the one guy. Yes, there are lessons there.

My worst experience in Thailand was on my 1st trip in Oct 1983, but it involved potential cheating in a poker game in the back blocks of fcuk knows where in BKK. No women involved. Thankfully, I managed to 'escape' from my predicament.

Since then I've returned to Thailand, but no longer accept anything at face value. Didn't stop me from marrying a Thai though! They are not all tarnished with the same brush. And I don't think the Thais are any worse than any other country, including PI where I probably spend more time these days.

Good story, but, a little over the top. As most stories are.
 
I agree... and why I don't recommend it to my friends until they have already been to Thailand...
 
Yea, i think if I read the book prior to my trip to LOS,it would pretty much ruin all the "cultural shock" for me. and I enjoyed beiing shocked:rofl:
