Keeping Warm

With winter weather settling in across the country: subzero temps. across the Midwest, 80 mph winds where I live, and 100 inches of snow in NY (the picture below is a man actually shoveling off his roof! :shock: ), I thought it would be fun to share the creative things we do to keep our clients warm & toasty in the wintertime! (For those of us in states with a winter. )

My clients always sigh in relief when they walk into my warm office. Let's face it, not many houses are heated as high as a massage studio! So, how else do you pamper your clients with warmth? Here are a few of my "tricks":

1. A few minutes before my client arrives, I place my heating pad (on high) on top of my bolster. When they're ready to get on the table, I move the heating pad to it's rack (ready for use during the massage). The bolster by then is so warm that my clients think it's somehow plugged in. They immediately relax when they feel that heat. I get lots of positive comments!

2. For my clients with cold hands, I bought something called "Helga's Mittzenvarmers." Isn't that a great name? They're purple fleece mittens, with little pockets that hold miniature microwaveable heat packs. They only take a minute to heat, and the mittens are machine washable.

3. Since I use a thermophore as my heating pad, I use towels to disperse the heat (between the heating pad & the client). For my female clients who receive abdominal massage, I always take one of those heated towels for the breast drape. They always comment on how nice it feels.

I have a table warmer like many others on the board. I keep rice packs and socks between heating pads. I put the rice packs on clients eyes and put the warm socks on after I am finished working feet. I use a few hot stones during almost all my sessions as well.

I never thought about our businesses being warmer than most clients homes. I guess it is true! But seriously, nothing is warmer than a nursing home!! Yikes!

Well, for the mornings were it's a little chilly here....we turn on the heater for a few minutes when we 1st get into the clinic to take the chill out of the air (by noon, the a/c is back on) and I do use a table warmer, hot towels and stones but I do that even in the summer. I keep a blanket handy in the room just in case someone is cool.

wow! I can't imagine wearing shorts and sandals right now lol! I'm in Iowa and it's considered warm here today because it's 30 degrees. It's been in the single digits and below lately...so..with that being said, I use a space heater, a table warmer, and a blanket.. going to look into warming the feet and hands somehow...those mitten thingys...where do you get them?

P.S. An easy way to warm the feet is to buy a heating pad large enough to lay over your sheet & over the feet. No extra laundry to worry about.
