I saw Marianne recently, and she did mention to me that her price is a little higher than the other girls she has working for her. I think she's trying to encourage her staff by directing some business their way. She understands the importance of maintaining a standard of quality set by her own amazing ability with massages, so I've hopes that whomever she's got working for her now is going to provide a good experience. Let's see for next time.

Very disappointing news, but not unexpected. She's had so many problems finding talent, so she turned to the only incentive that might possibly work. It may bump clients to her under-30 team, inspire them to actually learn their craft, and improve her revenue stream.

But it won't work with me. Besides, 80 piasters (almost a 50% premium) is more than a little high for someone who remains fully clothed, don't you think? Her new location is already less convenient for me than her old CDN location.

Been seeing her for 3 years, hate to stop, but she's letting the raves go to her head. There are other options out there.

I used to go to Marianne on Van Horne and then on Jean Talon when she had a nice little private practice. Once she moved and had a bigger place and more rent she seemed to lose focus on what made her successful. She first started by offering $20 specials for 20 minute massages, which may be attractive to some, but I wasn't interested in any place that offerred that sort of turnover. Then she brought in these higher mileage girls whose services went beyond her own, but they weren't reliable and offerred little massage skills.
Now she has uped her price in relation to the other girls that she offers. Again I think she is using a shot gun approach instead of clearly defining what the goals of the spa are and how to made it successful.
***EDITED BY MOD 11: NRP. *** seems to be quite successful offering a professional massage with sensuality, but without any touching on either side. Marianne takes this one step further offerring a release at the end. You would think that there would be a big enough market to make Lavanda successful as well.

No problem...I guess I'm curious about overall price. If she is asking $80 and the HJ is included, which is preceded by a great massage, I'd be OK with it. That would be consistent with a $55 or $60 cover charge for 1 hour + a $20 tip for a release. But if she's charging $80 and then expects a tip for the HJ, bumping it up to $100, then yes, I have an issue.

Anyone know if she's on this site ever? Maybe she could clarify?

For $80 with or without extra, thats more than other places. Kinda steep for these tough times when there is not much business out there. The $55 entry fee for the other girls is more than other places are asking, and that is before options.

Precisely. She's jacking (oops) up her rates by 45% during a recession. It's not even topless. Even people who aren't yet affected don't know whether they eventually will be, so almost everyone's a little more careful with money. This was not the wisest time for Marianne to do this.

Makes me recall the last time I saw her. She did the massage on a mattress on the floor, which was comfortable but it didn't let her apply all her usual skill for some reason. Anyway, it wasn't the first-rate job she had always done before. If she hadn't raised her fee, I'd have thought, Well, she's having an off evening, maybe she's tired, she'll be better next time. Instead, now I wonder. Maybe those original values of hers that made her a star are fading. It happens a lot.

If there's a recession on, shouldn't there be more talent looking to work for her than before? Shouldn't she have more of a choice? She needs to hire one other therapist with experience in her early 30s and forget about hiring cute 20-somethings without a clue about how it's done, who just want easy money. Get one new therapist trained to her own standards, maybe by offering some affordable 4 hands , let things stabilize. And then go back to the way she was without letting the business side interfere so much.

She does obviously have a lot going for her on the skills, personality and looks side.

But maybe there's no lineup at the door because we never know anymore what awaits us. Is she going to try to get us to take a session with some cute but incompetent 22 y.o.? Table or futon? Will her rates be higher than the last time?

Wishing for those days when you could go to her and get the same quality and hospitality every time. Who can blame her for wanting to expand her staff to make more money, but it just isn't working. Maybe she's trying to solve a problem that for the moment doesn't have a solution?

Or maybe she needs to hire some therapists from E. Europe who have a work ethic like hers. Or maybe her new place has bad energy and she needs to bring in a feng shui expert, who knows. (What feng shui dude wouldn't help her out if he got credit for 15 sessions? Hell, I'd learn feng shui for that. )

While she's figuring out what to do, why not go back to what worked? Why not drop all that huge overhead of the new place and go back to what she was doing before, solo, and become consistent again? Bet a lot of us would return to her then.

I find that to take a chance on unproven un-experienced masseuses is very expensive. I have had very few good massages from women under 30. Going through a divorce, resources are spent elsewhere. I do have a few good older ( over 35 ) experienced maseuses that I know that offer a good massage every time. For the price of a thai massage from an inexperienced girl, I can get 2 good massages from an experienced masseuse.

I will have to warn you guys, now that it is near back to school time, there will be a rush of last minute un-experienced girls hitting the salons to make quick bucks at your expense.

I called in advance to see Marianna. I got there at the right time, I was met by the Russian girl, who told me that she was still busy. I said I would wait for her. She asked for $55; I took a shower in the meantime. When I was done, she was ready. Good service from her, as always.


Looks like you guys don't know how good you've got it. By the time you give the tip, it's $100+ in Ottawa. In Montreal, $80 for an hour seems reasonable for good, consistent service with an attractive, friendly and bright woman.


There are other places for cheaper, but what's the point if you have the impression that you're taking up too much of the MPA's time?

Everything's more expensive in Ottawa and TO, always has been, and service was often less charming, IMHO. Now the gap is narrowing, unfortunately.

We once did have it good here, you're right. Now it's hard to find good MPs (and almost impossible to find real dancers). Prices are going up, bang for the buck going down.

But that could just mean that you overpaid guys in Ottawa and TO are laying out too much, you know. Our situation could be the normal one.

Now, if everyone felt the same way and didn't get taken in by the under 30s, the market might eventually correct the situation. Word would spread about the good ones, and the bad ones would either get out of the biz or learn the skills customers will pay for.

Hope Marianne gets it figured out.
