I have plans to once again spend time in puket in May..bringing a male work mate who has never been to Thailand before,,ive been 4 times

I can't help thinking thought that it will be very different, A Sad place maybe..

I was recently in Phuket in October 2004. I really love the place and was heart broken when the tragedy occurred. I couldnt beleive what I saw on TV.
However like NYC I am sure Phuket will regain its chram. People were terrified to come to NYC after our tragedy. But time will heal all wounds.
Until that time I will make every effort to travel to Phuket again as soon as possible.
Its hard for a married man to travel

Just booked my flights from Miami to Phuket. It's a total of 12,240 air miles one way. It's a long haul. This land has provided me with so many fond memories and great friends. I intend to spread some Thai Baht to help with the recovery. Will arrive on March 21.

I donated $500 to Red Cross. I hope it is used well and not used up by administrators. When I get to Patong Beach does anyone know of a good charity that will help the kids and displaced families.

I guess Im an odd one out on this board

I cancelled my flight and bookings last week, was due to arrive 30th Jan; Im sorry I just cant go to Patong and party with so many ppl still looking for family and loved ones. I am going to reschdule my trip to late Feb or March.

I was even considering going to the South Pacific instead of Thailand altogether but reading all the thoughts here, it would be a tradegy to get hit with a natural disater, then tourist to abandon the region.

Therefore I will still come, albeit postponed out of repect.

Broker Im sure everyone respects your decision. People have lost their lives and many loved ones are suffering.

Thai people from all over Thailand come to work in Phuket. It was the no 1 tourist destination with almost all of it's economy geared towards tourism, but the wider aspects are that a massive amount of people Thailand wide will suffer if Phuket cannot recover. With all due respect to places like Samui & Pattaya thet cannot replace or take up the attractions that Phuket have for people

For me it is no great big issue in my personal scheme of life. I am a well qualified person who could go back to the UK and find good employment, but for so many Thai people this is not an option

So Im glad you have decided to come at a later date
