Lots of help/advice needed for total body routine

Hello,I am planning on devloping a massage routine that will take place over (unknown) weeks, at one hour massage per week. The routine would be based on working on certain parts each week so that by the end of the treatment all the muscles would be treated. There would also be time included in  that hour for "problem" muscles/areas. This may seem unneeded, and for some MTs it probably is. It just would be helpful for me and some others to have a specific rotuine to use that would make sure all areas are coverd. I know that there are some areas I somtimes forget and some techniques I generally don't think of using. For example... I really don't use cross fiber friction a whole lot... I should in some circumstances but I just don't think of it. It would be great to have set out routine for me, maybe even a checklist. It wouldn't be the same routine used every visit either, that gets a bit boring. For example... Lets say the first week you work on the shoulders. The second week you work on the arms, along with doing streching to help the work you did the first week. The treatments would work work with eachother to keep the muscles in optimum condition. I'm not really sure how long it would take. It would be like the ultimate therapeutic massage. Besides it having a plan on what muscles to be worked on, it would have specifics what technique works best to work on them. Such as thumb sweeping for going up the backbone. If I get enough information on completeing this project I would be able to make it into a nice file and e-mail it to anyone for free. I just think it would be a nice reference supplement for any massage therapist to have wether they want to use it or just have it for information. All suggestions and ideas are helpful. a set routine? a checklist?  Not every client is the same and should be treated the same.  No client will fall under a "set routine" or "Checklist".    I don't see you really helping anyone when you don't know a whole lot of A&P.

I'm not sure I'm following this part....are you saying that you forget to do certain body parts during your typical full body massage?  I usually do a full body starting at one end of the body and working my way to the other end that way I don't miss anything.  I think it flows better and I usually time myself so that I can spend the extra few minutes on any area that the client is complaining about before I move on.

Perhaps you just need a bit more practice in general.  If you are paying attention to the client's tissue you will know what it needs (cross fiber friction, compression, etc.) but if you don't know what the techniques will do to the tissue then you won't be able to know what technique to use and when.  I'm not sure I understand how you can forget to use a technique unless you are just mindlessly going through the motions of a massage sequence and then "forget" that part of your sequence.

I think it takes real effort not to get stuck in a rut with the massage routine especially when so many clients present the same problems.  It might help to get regular massages yourself (trade if you can?) so you can feel some of the techniques other MTs are using and incorporate them into your massages.

In general I think what you are suggesting does sound alot like modalities that are already out there.  But perhaps it would be helpful for you to create a full body routine that uses particular techniques for particular body parts so that you can create your own signature massage...

I have seen a couple of threads around describing some great moves to use during massage, maybe you could pick up some techniques there to use in your routine.

Am I missing something here?  ???This is the sort of thing you learn in school, even crappy 300 hr schools (like the one I went to). I've read the other post, the $20 thing, and it's confusing me a bit (since we're all here to learn to be better therapists and work smarter not harder, etc.) but this is just really strange.I'm sorry this post isn't more PC, but it seems the original poster just wasn't paying attention in class.Maybe it's simply time for some CEU courses? Jillthis board gets all kinds, all of them.

I agree with jewelalchemy - any massage class gives you a "routine" to follow.I get the impression you don't feel like you can cover a whole body in the time you allow, so you want to break it down into several parts and do one part a week - you can't be working THAT slowly.A full hour on one specific body part, $20 or $100 per hour, is taking it to extremes.  I'd suggest find more effective ways to work and don't worry about the routine you want.  I think you mentioned this was the type of thing you wanted to offer for the $20 an hour people - only pay $20 for each session but commit to 10 sessions because your neck won't be worked on until week 10 and you know your neck is the problem. Regardless of cost,  I think you would have a lot of trouble getting people to understand they need their ankle massaged for an entire session when they have a headache just because their ankle is what should come next in the series.  People want their treatment to be what they need then, not what you think they need over 10 weeks, or whatever length of time your routine takes.

I really would not enjoy a massage like that. It would just seem  incomplete.  Also I think it would be boring to the both giver and reciever. Thats just my opinion though.
