I've had a personal page on facebook for some time. I have about 100 friends, most of them are old friends and aren't even in my area. I just signed up for a facebook business page and suggested it to the friends on my list. Not too many people have become fans yet. Most of the people on my personal friends list wouldn't be much benefit to me anyway since they are too far away from me to become clients.

How do I find local people to send friends requests too? How can you search facebook according to interests or location? I also don't know how to send a request from my business page, only my personal page. Do I have to become personal friends with them and then suggest they "like" my business page?

I'm so new to this, I just don't know what I'm doing! I wish there was a guide to facebook business. Also, I can't seem to put a "like" box onto my website. I've clicked on the option and it get a "code", but I don't know what to do with the code?

Please help! This is frustrating.

i'm pretty sure that you should be able to copy/paste the code onto your website. login to edit your web page, find an appropriate place for your "follow me on facebook" button or like button, or whichever, and then paste the code there. is that what you're asking?

as for finding local people on FB, you may want to buy an ad. your ad will pop up on the right side of the page when people whose accounts meet your criteria are logged in. if they like your ad, they follow your page. you can't really browse through members living near you - that's a myspace feature that facebook is "above". however, you can start by looking at friends of friends in the area. ask them to like your page so they can follow your promos and such and go from there. this is all still very new to me also, so i'll be watching this thread to see what others have to say about it...

There should be a place for HTML codes for your website. That is why the code is not working

as for finding local people on FB, you may want to buy an ad. your ad will pop up on the right side of the page when people whose accounts meet your criteria are logged in. if they like your ad, they follow your page.

I think that a good way to find fans is the "ad".

I am not so sure I would want to just put my FB page out on Craig's List. As it is, I will remove strange people from my Business FB page, when they seem questionable (usually you can see this by looking at your fans pages). Lots of strange language and links to funky "other" pages will get you banned from my business FB page everytime.

Another thought would be to put your FB page on a special "business-type" card and hand that to people you are interested in "liking" your page. Maybe give some to your favorite coffee house or shop in town and ask them to hand some out for you too. Same with your friends.

My :2cents: :

First: Determine your goals for a Facebook biz page. What are you trying to accomplish with the page? Reach new clients? Keep existing clients "in the know"?

Second: Draw up an action plan for the page with these goals. Could look something like this:
Elliemare's Facebook Business Page: Reaching out to existing customers
- Post weekly affirmations/informational articles/polls/etc...
- Post daily appointment openings
- Post monthly link to the newsletter
- Add Facebook Page link to monthly newsletter, encourage clients to "like" the business on FB using a flier in the office ("Like" us on Facebook to catch the latest and greatest with Elliemare's Business)

Third: Determine how you will handle client friend requests to your personal account, because it will happen, and often. For me the solution was to keep two separate accounts: one for business, one for personal.

I think so many of us got caught up in the must-get-my-biz-on-Facebook frenzy that we've forgotten why on earth we're on there to begin with! lol. It can be a huge time suck, but can pay off by having a greater interaction with a perceneforum.xxxe of the client base. I look at my page as an extension of my monthly newsletter - a blend of educational, inspirational and advertorial content with a sprinkling of humor and fun.
