Hi all,

I have recently started my reflexology diploma (very exciting stuff!) and would like to buy a couch/seat of some sort for practice and case studies but don't know where to start. I thought this might be a good place to ask.. are reflexology seats any good? Or should I invest in a really decent couch?

Hey, I'm looking to buy my first massage couch, have looked in a beauty wholesales and they have a few good ones, of course the decent ones are pricy. I've found a site where the couches look good and they're well priced only I'm not sure how reliable this site is so don't want to jump the gun.

Hi RQ,

I am in Clare. I got my table from a company in Cork www.zenthings.com I purchased the Universal table as I do both massage and reflex. The owner's name is Barry, found their service excellent, had my couch delivered within 2 days. They also give discounts for students and I see now from their website that they also deliver to the UK which may be of interest to others.

Hi I bought myself a new massage couch in May off EBAY from a company called Feel Good Massage. It's a great couch - long, wide, height adjustable. I had to bid for it but with delivery cost about £120. It arrived really quickly. It is really good value for money and has been fantastic so far. Comes with lots of accessories too. My clients think it is so much better than my last one and with it being height adjustable it is also great for me as I use it for massage as well as reflexology.

The site you mentioned are based in germany and your goods will come from germany. it may be better to stick with an Irish company seeing as your in dublin. Its safer if you ever have to return stuff. But then again im sure your concerned by price. you can always ask them to match the price if you find it cheaper elsewhere!!

Thanks everyone. I'll have a look at those sites. I'm willing to spend about 300 euro on a bed. Anything I've seen thats any cheaper just looks like it would collapse under any weight over 10 stone.

A few of my therapist friends have bought Master couches and they are very happy with them. I've also used them whilst on training courses and they are comfortable.

When you do buy your couch make sure that it's height adjustable as you're likely to find that you need a lower height couch as your techniques improve. Also be aware of the weight as some companies say light weight but the reality is different. The weight is more important if you want to go mobile.

your query has given me the incentive to finally register with HP after reading it for the last 9 months!!

I came across online therapy supplies whilst looking for a massage chair in the summer - it's worth checking out e-bay, as I discovered that they also have a shop on there: I bought the exact chair I had chosen from their website (brand new and boxed) but managed to save myself some money!

The item was delivered within a couple of days as promised and was exactly as described, so from my experience, I would be very happy to buy items from them in the future. I'm sure I remember reading on their site that if you're not satisfied, they will collect the item and offer a full refund (but please check this for yourself, just to be sure)

I notice zenthings sell the master couches that bestmassage offer, just for a fair bit more. Was looking at massage store and see they have a nifty looking bed for €259 although they won't have it in stock till 22nd of October so are selling it for €229 for people who are willing to wait. Wahey.

Have a look at Marsh Couch. They are pricey but well worth it. The guy who runs the company will advise you on exactly what you need. Plus if you live in Hemel as your name suggests they are only round the corner from you so you could go & look at them.

Hi there,

As an important tool of your trade I think that it well worth giving good consideration to the couch that you buy.

You can buy a multitude of different couches. If possible try them out. Depending on what your requirements are some of the factors that you might take into consideration are:

Height (ideally get one that has adjustable legs),
Weight (if you are likely to be mobile then, ideally you need a lightweight, yet sturdy couch with aluminium legs rather than wooden)
Width (if it is too wide then you might struggle to stretch over the couch during treatment).
Is it sturdy? (it can be distracting for a client and yourself to be on a wobbly table)
If possible, I would recommend that you buy a couch with a face cradle that extends out of the end of the couch, one that is adjustable and one that you can take off when the client is lying on their back.
Consider also how thick the foam is and how comfortable to table will be. Look at customer reviews. There are so many couches that are uncomfortable. It is well worth spending more money to ensure you get the right one for you.

Earthlite and Oakworks are two companies that I can personally vouch for after using their couches. They are not cheap, although I can say that a good couch is so important.
