Hi, Could I ask any of you who currently use any massage cream to check your ingredient list. I'm looking for a massage cream that does not contain any parabens such as  methylparaben. If you have a cream, and only a cream, that does not contain the above items, please post it here. Thanks!

I can't help you with a paraben-free cream, I have developed an allergy to creams in general (thanks biotone) and get a wicked rash/eczema that pops out between my fingers when I use ANY cream/lotion.  It is my understanding that a cream/lotion it is an emulsion of water & oil & because of the water, you have to use some type of preservative to keep the mixture from spoiling.I now use plain old almond oil or jojoba oil for bodywork & have started using olive butter for hands an feet work & absolutely LOVE it.  It has a great 'feel' to it & a little goes a long way w/no unpleasant odor.  It's perfect for the dryer skin on hands and feet where oil that is too thin tends to 'catch' and 'snag'.  The one downside is that it can get a little grainy (similar to shea butter) if it melts and re-solidifies, but all I do is rub it between my hands and it melts and smooths out.Good luck & am curious to see if anyone else has come up w/ a preservative free cream.

Thanks Heather. Where do you purchase your olive butter and is that the best price if I may ask? I believe Santa Barbara massage cream is more of a butter and it's very free of additives. I really am looking for a cream but am willing to try a butter. I did jojoba oil for a couple years but I prefer cream.Perhaps others will chime in!

Thanks! I have read those threads but I'm very specific in what I want and that is a massage cream with no parabens and no nut oils or mineral oils so that lets out alot. Anyone else? I'll have to investigate the olive butter.

It will be a massage cream, gel, and lotion.  They are all paraben-free.  We are still doing a beta test, but the results look good so far. There's a new company that was featured recently in the "What's New" section of Massage & Bodywork Magazine. They're called Evo Solutions and they sell 2 lotions with only pure ingredients. I prefer cream over lotion, but I might try their Olive Massage Lotion. They say it's a thicker lotion. Here's the list of ingredients: Olive Oil, Distilled water (no chemical additives), Beeswax, Shea butter, Jojoba oil, Organic Cocoa butter, Vegetable glycerin, Borax, Grapefruit seed extract and Vitamin E.

I just learned about another company as well, called Sweet Pea Botanicals. I haven't tried their products, but I believe they'll send a free sample to licensed massage therapists. They also are supposed to have only pure ingredients: http://www.sweetpeabotanicals.com/product_Calendula%20Cream.htm

I agree with Berkana that any product with water in it is supposed to have some kind of preservative. However, there are natural preservatives, like vitamin E and Grapefruit seed extract. Also many essential oils have anti-microbial properties. Santa Barbara Massage Cream is more of a butter than a cream (has no water and therefore no need for preservatives). However, the shelf life on products without chemical preservatives is shorter (6 months). So only buy as much at one time as you can use in that period of time.

Lovely Day was actually looking for a cream without nut oils, and Muse's cream contains almond & madamia nut oils. Also, diazolidinyl urea and iodopropynyl butylcarbamate are preservatives similar to parabens. They can cause contact dermatitis and are potential toxins as well.

I just received an advertisement in the mail for another more natural massage cream. Like Sombra, they have replaced harsher preservatives with milder ones. It's not perfect, but seems better than most. (They don't have any nut oils, mineral oils or parabens.) It's called BioEntopic Massage Creme. Here's the ingredient list: Certified Organic Aloe Vera Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Coco Caprylate/Caprate (vegetable origin), Ceteatyl Glucoside (vegetable origin), Essential Fatty Acid Oils (Hemp & Evening Primrose), Natural Beeswax, Capryloyl Glycin Undecylenoyl Glycin (vegetable origin antimicrobial), Potassium Sorbate (powdered mountain ash tree and potassium salt), Vitamin E, Vitamin C Ester, Allantoin, Vitamin A, Certified Organic Rosemary Oil Extract, Calamintha Extract, Certified Organic Thyme Leaf Oil Extract.

From my research, the only one that appears to have potential for skin irritation is the potassium sorbate. The rest are considered mild with no known adverse effects.

I haven't tried the cream, so cannot endorse it one way or the other. They are running a special, if anyone wants to try it. ($29.99 for a gallon. You need this code word at checkout: GLIDE). One of the reasons I keep posting any information I can find about new creams is that I've used cream exclusively for years and have a difficult time switching over completely to oils. Although Santa Barbara Massage Cream and Solace Massage Cream (listed above) are purely natural products, they're both more of a butter than a cream, and for that reason are a little oily for my taste. So, I'm still searching for a "true cream" with more natural ingredients. It's difficult to find! I think others who love massage creams and lotions might feel the same way.

It's necessarily difficult to find. Creams and lotions give us the feel we want in a lubricant because they blend oils with water. Oil and water, of course, do not mix. An emulsifier is required. For example, in the BioEntopic Massage Creme, the Cetearyl Glucoside is the emulsifier.
